Anyone else think "22 hours of silence" is horrible?

So basically, for everyone living on the hill, this is like the worst policy ever invented. It's so dull around here in the dorms. You seriously have to think about how loud you're going to be every time you open your mouth. They told me I could only play my acoustic guitar "quietly" and that I probably shouldn't play my electric at all, even between 5-7pm. LAME. People need some time to just kick back and take it easy, but the atmosphere here alone doesn't allow you to do that, let alone patrolling RA's. Perhaps I'm just annoyed after getting written up last night in someone's room where we were hanging out, but I've yet to meet one person who actually enjoys or approves of this policy...except RA's, lol.

I've loved the dorms up until this point, but right now I don't even want to be here, and next week will be even worse as there's no classes to take up time, only finals. Anyone else think 22 hours of quiet is just a little excessive?

My floor basically doesn't believe in this policy. We have turned our lounge into a study break room instead, and playing hard core games of extreme solitare and egyptian ratscrew.

I think 22 hours of silence is amazing and not excessive at all. And I am not an RA. I personally would not be able to concentrate if someone was playing a guitar while I was studying.

And I think you're right. You are probably just annoyed because you were written up last night.

i think it's a-okay.

22 hours of silence? Haha not being reinforced here...

I feel no effect of it since Canyon Point is quiet to begin with. Our neighbors keep us in check and tell us whenever our music gets too loud :(.

More importantly, people want to study so respect them. If you want to be loud, go outside or somewhere else.

What BoelterHall said.

theres 24 hours of silence in my dorms anyway

but if i lived in a residence hall i'd think it was a great thing. time to study. get good grades. $

yeah haven't noticed any difference in courtside either.

i havent seen it very strictly enforced but i think most people are pretty good about complying with it. i mean after all, it is 10th and finals week where most people are scrambling to write 10 page papers or trying to cram a whole quarter of material in a few days. quiet = good.

it doesnt necessarily mean you have to sit there and read and not make a single sound all day. just keep whatever you're going quiet enough as to not bother people around you. no one wants their next door neighbor to be playing Xbox or something with their speaker system cranked or someone playing on their electric guitar with the amp cranked while they're trying to study.

just keep the amp volume low on your electric guitar and you should be fine (as long as your roommate is fine with it). or goto one of the music rooms in rieber.

Please do not play DDR during this week. People are trying to study and people one floor below get annoyed when you do so. (Headphones do not cancel out the insane stomping.)

I don't see why this is such an awful policy. One or two weeks of not being a noisemaker won't kill anyone.

i don't think it's excessive...

i never knew about this, but i think its a good idea. I hate having to walk all the way to the library and back (yes, im incredibly lazy when comes to walking the damn hill).

you're not the only one

I actually enjoy these quiet(er) days. If it was longer than a few weeks, it'd suck, but it's kind of peaceful.

Yeah, MadeInChina, it's not really being enforced here either. It actually seemed louder last week.

i agree, devr.

Haha, Devr, you live on my floor, and I don't see it being quieter at all. Even our RA said that our floor is basically just not following quiet hours.
