Anyone else think CC is due for an update?

Are the CC forums updated regularly? Is there a scheduled date to revamp this old thing? I think these forums are incredibly outdated and lack key features (like the ability to QUOTE messages, for instance). It's also bizarre that there are no avatars or signatures or even profiles. Obviously, the forums were designed to have profiles, but the ability to edit the About Me section (presumably "Additional Information" in "My Control Panel") has been disabled.

I understand the intentions to force anonymity on a site like College Confidential, but I don't think several of the features that have been disabled/removed would necessarily have compromised anyone's confidentiality.

Maybe I'm alone on this. I wouldn't know, because I can't make polls ;). What are everyone else's thoughts?

Wait what?!

I agree. A revolution is needed. I WANT TO HAVE A HARVARD EMBLEM AS MY AVATAR.

Take it easy akman. And yes, maybe a few more features would be cool, but I like the fact that the forum is simple. I wouldn’t want to log on and be spammed with .gifs or signatures…

Avatars would be fine with me but I think its made simple for a reason. IMO

-We can quote.
-No avatars: why do we need them?
-No sigs: Thank God - they just clutter up pages
-I’m confused. I can edit my About Me section.

I don’t like avatars and signatures.

^ Me neither.

Thank you CC for providing a relatively plain discussion forum!

I hate avatars and signatures.

One, loading avatars seem to make my internet slower -.-
Two, signatures are distracting and pointless
Three, we CAN quote and do smilies- what more does one need?
Four, I love the simplicity of CC. It is very easy to follow the threads and it doesn’t clutter. Yay CC!

CC is even better when you roll back to the shades of gray color scheme, so your retinas won’t burn out!

CC was designed for paranoid students looking for information on the college admissions proccess

the fact that people actually hang out here is an anomaly

Why fix what’s not broken? I hate flashy forum stuff…it just gets in the way.

I can’t quote. I hit the “reply” link, then check the “quote message in reply” box, but it doesn’t show up.

As DCHurricane said, the button is actually broken.

Yes, broken.

There can be limits on signatures, such as text-only. It just helps a LOT if there is something identifiable about a user’s posts when tracking a thread.

There are free forums (such as phpBB) that, for me at least, load just as quickly. I suppose if CC’s intention was never to have a community like it does, which would make it more difficult for the passing user to get questions answered, then there is no reason to update.

On a side note, it cracks me up how resistant people are to change. There is an outrage every time Facebook or YouTube receives a design update. Personally, change is welcome almost always. Even if there are bugs, I’ll deal with it. You can’t expect everything to be working perfectly at all times with no exceptions (see: health care reform). People these days…

How about a list of the available smilies? A tutorial on how to use the board’s code? It’s pretty hit-and-miss. I was surprised that [ list ] [*] [ /list] worked… [ code ] [ /code ] does, too.

^ There is a list of smilies. Search smilies and you will find it.

Quick quote is god.

Having to manual quote is not a good thing and should be fixed. As for everything else, I’d take it or leave it.

I looked through 3-4 pages of results and didn’t find anything.

Look at the bottom of the Post Reply page. There are two links that say BB code and Smilies. Those are the links with all the info you could possibly need . For quoting, you do this:
[noparse]

[/noparse]

EDIT: By the way, colors are:
[noparse]blue text[/noparse]
blue text

BB code isn’t hard to use. And we can quote, what I haven’t figured out how to do is have a quote box and specify the author of the quote inside in the box… Leafblade answered that as I was typing…

Signatures are annoying and avatars take up a lot of space… That being said it would be nice if there were small “icons” specify the “experiences” of a poster (i.e. current student at X, alum of X, HS, Parent etc.)

I am forever in your debt. :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks!
