I mean, compared with the essays I've written for my RD schools, my Yale essays were mediocre.

This is a little worrying. As the 15th approaches, I'm starting to think that perhaps applying early wasn't the best idea. Yale is my top choice, but I would have had a better application if I'd applied RD.

I've just been reusing my essays for the most part. I've only made a few minor tweaks. I think the only cool improvement I made to my application was with the infamous "box" on the Rice application, so I'm not feeling any regrets about applying early to Yale. In fact, since I decided that Yale was for me, I've been more and more glad about choosing to apply there early. Hopefully the commitment to apply early will place my application into the acceptance pile.

I have the same feeling about my Harvard EA app. "If I knew then what I know now" or something like that. I guess it just means that if I get deferred, I know what I want to send.

"If I knew then what I know now"
- Exactly how I feel

Plus, I did and sent the application before finding out about this website. This website (and you guys) have helped a lot and I know a lot more about the American admissions process than I did when I was writing the app. Such a shame, I can pinpoint every mistake.

yes, i thought my common app essay was really good, but my yale supp. essay could have been better if id spent more time on it. Also, i remembered a few little mistakes i made. alas. whats done is done.

i say dont think about it. Yeah, i was looking at my essays, and it seemed like one couldve been way better, but I mean, nothing can be done about it, so I say wait. Maybe you got in! Maybe what you thought was bad was actually good! Or maybe it ruined your chances........whatever, but i say best not to think about it

Haha, I've been dealing with the same problem since the day I sent in my app. I think it's just a natural reaction, because my brother felt the same exact way after he sent his (and he just got into his Early Decision School, so it couldn't have been as bad as he thought). However, if we get deferred (hypothetically of course!), does anyone know anything about sending additional or replacement essays for regular decision?

You all just think that your EA apps were bad because they're the ones you care most about. I was really stressing out over my Yale app and my parents were just like "Listen, its never going to be perfect, just do your best"

i completely agree tallyrand...since my yale essays were the first ones I wrote, they kind of suck compared to the essays I'm doing now. I think I would have stood a better shot RD too...oh well. Maybe I'll still get in accidentally...?

newt, I totally agree. After Yale, I wrote my safety school essays, and they were mediocre. But now I am applying to reach schools again, and I can't write essays that are good! I think I'm in a bad essay writing rut.

I have writer's block. blah. I'm beginning to like my personal statement again.. but the activity essay is another story... As for other essays, they're okay. Approaching the 'good' level....

I'm trying to manipulate my Yale essays as much as I can to fit into the Stanford and Princeton prompts. I am using the exact same ones for Dartmouth and Harvard as they are open ended.

ohh yea my RD essays are so much better. but im making up for it by really doing poorly in my senior year courses, so i guess im glad i applied EA to harvard (regret not giving that to stanford).

my Yale essay (the activity one, the MARCHING BAND ONE) is by far the best ive written for any college, so i sent it out to all my schools as the "topic of your choice" common application essay. i havent come close to it with any of the supplimental essays from other colleges tho
