I found out that I got the Trustee's yesterday.

Kind of a waste because I'd rather go to Berkeley for free over USC for free.

And I think my need-based fa covers me at most privates.

I found out that I got the Trustee's yesterday.

Kind of a waste because I'd rather go to Berkeley for free over USC for free.

Why do you want to go to Berkeley over USC? I heard it is over crowded at Berkeley. Congratulations on your great scholarships!

Berkeley vs. USC is a tough choice!

I really wish I was in your position, you should call USC and let them know you'd liek to transfer that money over to me =P

Congrats!

Well mdcissp, 3 of my sisters went to Berkeley so it's kind of a family tradition. Plus, I've been to Berkeley so many times, and I feel like I match the personality of the campus.

Chinaski, I would if I could lol.

Last year, I heard some kids from the East Coast turned down Trustee scholarship to go to Harvard or something similar.

I know a girl that turned down Cornell for USC because of the Trustee scholarship.

... your choice. for me, USC > Cal any day. but that's because 70 kids frm my school goes to Cal every year.. i dont want hs again for another 4 years.

I know someone who tranfered from Dartmouth to USC Marshall....
Although I have no idea why?

I know a boy that got that scholarship too but he's holding out for Stanford. xD He already got into Yale too and he's turning them down even though they're also giving him a scholarship.

Aj16, I know a senior who transferred from Dartmouth to USC Marshall, too. I wonder if we know the same person.

What do you mean "I match the personality of the campus"? What is the Berkeley personality vs. the USC personality? I heard that Berkeley is very liberal.

"This is in no way trying to be racist but did you the school is like 45% Asian."

You know someone's about to make a racist comment when they start a sentence off with 'I'm not being racist or anything but...'

That wasn't racist (in the derrogatory manner) but a statement of fact.

While the staff is 19.2% Asian, the actual student body is roughly 40% Asian.

Why does it matter unless you are xenophobic?

Diversity is a MAJOR contributor to mental and personal growth, whether you realize it or not. I come from a very diverse area and some of my family is from a relatively self segregated state (VA, where many blacks and whites are friendly, but prefer to deal with only each other). I see the advantages everyy time I go down there, not only do all my friends and I have a more open mind to newer things, but more people down there have erroneous and ignorant stereotypes, are adverse to trying new cultural thing because they don't understand it, and also allow themselves to fall victim to though "other races are out to get me" mentality. I personally think diversity is a huge part of growth.

I'd pick USC over Berkeley, but why are people here acting like it's so strange to do the opposite? Berkeley is higher-ranked by USNews and other publications...Haas and several of its other schools are world-class.

And Berkeley does have a very different vibe than USC, just as LA has a verry different feel compared to the Bay Area.

Maybe because it's a USC board? Either way, congratulations on getting into both; you'll be getting a great education wherever you choose to go.

what happens to the scholarship when it's turned down? do they give to other kids? do they waitlist them for the scholarships?

i'm sooo lost. What are the people like in berkeley vs USC? Aren't there asians at both school...? I'm having difficulties choosing between the two also (majoring in business) congrats on your scholarship! I wish they had given me a full package..

Go visit Berkeley and USC on the accepted students week-ends coming up. See for yourself. Berkeley, I hear, is very liberal. USC will have more students from all over the U.S.
