Congrats to those who did
Sorry to those that didn't

But before I was admitted I was sure that I will be attending UCSB as a Poli Sci major
now I'm faced with UCSB or UCLA.

I don't feel that I'm prepared enough to transfer. With this being said I feel like the fierce competition at UCLA will destroy me where as UCSB will be more relaxed.

I'm not too worried about the immediate future after I grad from my UC cause I'm doing Army ROTC. So thats 3-4 years of commitment after.

If you feel like you’re going to be destroyed at UCLA, maybe you should think about attending UCSB.

Keep in mind that if UCLA admitted you, they have confidence in your abilities to succeed.

IMHO, I feel as though if you want to succeed at UCLA, you can’t be afraid of being “destroyed”. You have to think that YOU will “destroy” UCLA :)

Poli Sci is not what I would call a hard major. I am sure you will do fine at both institutions. I think you should go to UCLA. UCLA has a really nice rotc program.

You’re not alone. It upsets me because I’m turning down their offer to stay another 2 years at community college to do biology/physical therapy prereqs. I’m also planning to do the same to Berkeley if they accept me as well. I also feel somewhat guilty because many people would love to be accepted and now my friends/family think I’m crazy for declining to matriculate.

I’d really love to go but I know this decision, both time/money wise, will be the better one in the long run. I’m hoping UCLA will give me a second shot 2 years from now. Also, I’ll be better prepared since I’ll be more familiar with the application process and know what to look out for.

I personally know people that chose UCSB over LA and they are very happy with their choice. I would say go with your gut, like Andj00 said, you know yourself better then anyone else. Granted UCLA is ranked higher but both schools are great! I think you will do just fine at either place that you attend but if it were me and I wanted to go to SB originally and feel like if would be a better fit socially I would go there.

The last thing I would think about is this. if you are not DYING to go to LA and feel that you would be equally happy at SB going to SB would help someone else get into LA that REALLY wants to go.

good luck in your decision making and congrats on being excepted to two really great schools!

Go to UCLA man. UCSB is my third choice, but UCLA is just amazing. The opportunities you will get there will be greater than at UCSB.

I don’t know much about their rotc program, except that they have a nice website and seem like they do a lot of activities. They also have a rich tradition.

I was a thrilled but a little upset because I had my heart set on moving to San Diego (for UCSD). I can’t possibly turn down the English program at UCLA for the Literature major at UCSD though. The more I think about it, the more excited I get. I can put up with L.A. a couple more years for this. :)

1 yr transfer
3.5 gpa
2 jobs
some community/school government involvment
took my first pre req in winter, all my others are in the spring - now.
i’m taking calc 1 which might have been a factor
I applied last minute so I had to reuse my high school essays from the year before, just reworded them.

I feel bad posting in this thread when there are several people who would kill to get accepted to UCLA, but yes, honestly I AM upset that I got in. In a way, it gets my hopes up for Berkeley, but at the same time, I had planned on going to Davis if I didn’t get into Berkeley! So now, if I don’t get into Berkeley, it would be pretty tough for me to choose Davis over UCLA! GAAAAAH! Too much to think/worry about! I don’t think I want to move to SoCal, but at the same time, UCLA >>>>> Davis! Bollocks! This will all be better next week if by some dumb chance I get into Cal!

wow, congrats stesla. do u know which one you will choose? SB is def. more chill than LA. but LA is more renowned i guess. it’s all up to u in the end. have u visited SB?
