Mine is. I had planned to go down there for the holiday weekend but just can't swing it. And with him having classes on Wednesday and then coming home December 18th, it seemed crazy to fly him to NY.

Seems like there's a dinner on Tuesday night (??) but not sure what else is going on that weekend.

Someone on this board mentioned 'the races' I think, but I'm not sure what that means. I just hope it doesn't involve dogs. (we're greyhound rescuers!)

Thoughts?

Thanksgiving Day is opening day at the racetrack- horses. It’s a popular event, I know a lot of my friends go! (Drew Brees is often spotted there as well) Also that weekend is the Bayou Classic football game between Southern and Grambling. The day after Thanksgiving is the opening day of Celebration in the Oaks! The Bayou Classic parade is on Thanksgiving Day- starts at the Super Dome and winds down to the French Market. There is shopping on Magazine Street as well! Here is a link to all the activities associated with the Bayou Classic, many open to the public!

Mavitale: Tuesday is the last day of classes before Thanksgiving.

Ah, thanks. I thought they had classes on Wednesday. Still… he’s staying. ;)

Thanks for all the info, dolphnlvr!

I’m sure he won’t be the only one. Lots of kids from far away. It doesn’t make sense to go home for 4 days then again less than a month later.

Indeed, there have always been a lot of kids that stay. Back when I was there they did have classes on that Wednesday, so getting home in time was tough. They were a little slow to change to the reality that so many kids were not from the south, like it used to be. Now there are even so many international students.

But I had a particularly fabulous Thanksgiving there one year, I wrote about it last year or a couple years ago on here. And there was another at a professor’s house that was pretty nice as well.
