At my high school, there were never class ranks where students were ranked #1-whatever. There used to be the decile system, but even that died out. So no, we have no valedictorian, no salutatorian, and nobody ranked last.

Anyone else?

my old school, Whitney High (#1 in California, #3 in U.S.), didn’t do it because it was already a competitive environment already. they only based valedictorian and all those titles based on senior GPA.

^Exact same here.

Our school doesn’t officially rank due to the competitiveness. It’s not too hard to piece together a pretty accurate unofficial ranking however.

That’s not quite the same. My school has NO rankings whatsoever and NO valedictorian determined by GPA or otherwise.

what school do you attend? (not trying to stalk you or anything)

Well, nothing is still reported to colleges in both situations. And the val and sal are just titles. And all they get to do is give speeches at the end of the year.

TRUFFLIEPUFF - I would rather not disclose that as it would tell you where I live.

meadow - True, but a title is still more than nothing. At my school, the class pres and VP give speeches at graduation.

If it helps you don’t even know who they are until the midway of senior year. So it’s not as if you get much time to bask in glory.

We only have valedictorian and salutatorian.

My school doesn’t rank us, but we do have a vali and salu and gpa.

However, the top 20% (top 20 students) can guess at the rankings unofficially. we’re a small school (100 per grade).

my school doesn’t do rankings or calculate a GPA, and seniors choose a commencement speaker by consensus during the Spring (it’s going on for this year’s class now)

My school does not rank due to its size. Last year there were 13 seniors and this year there are 20. My sophomore class is the largest in the high school with 31. Ranking would make many students that are excellent students look bad because of our small size.

My child’s HS does not rank.

My school is one of the top 5 in the country (no actual school ranking for the country), it doesnt rank students at all, since its not healthy according to the principal.

My school ranks, but there could be many valedictorians…depending on toughest schedule with all A’s.

my school doesnt rank, but we do have a valedictorian and salutatorian based on GPA.

My current school doesn’t rank either (small, ultra-competitive college prep school with 20% NMSF’s) – no deciles, no nothing. However, it does state the highest GPA in the class on the Secondary School Report it has to fill out. The school I’m moving to for my senior year is also a private school, but it isn’t nearly as competitive as my current school and does rank its students despite the small size of the student body.

I go to a large school (around 2,800 students) that doesn’t release rank info to students or colleges. It just publishes val, sal, and the top 10% of class at the end of the year. I think it would be helpful if they at least told students what decile of class they’re in. Anyways, there are people in the know who are covering the valedictorian race very closely as if it were a sports season.

My school doesn’t rank as of last year. We never have had weighted grades so it was only based on UW GPA which was just dumb. We had like 20 vals every year out of a class of 800…yea it was dumb.
