Anyone ever been a busser?

anyone here ever had a bussing job before?

does it suck as much as everyone i've talked to said it did?

i just applied for the bussing job at Morton's Steakhouse (pretty upscale, so I'm hoping for a little more in terms of the tip out.)

any advice?

My sister was a hostess at a rather nice restaurant here. You know, the girl who greets you and takes you to your seat. She couldn’t be anything else because the restaurant serves wine. She liked it pretty well, and she got a discount on books in the attached store.

I used to wait and bus at this local place.

Your happiness is basically controlled by your customers, so it really depends on the type of people you encounter. If they’re happy, you’re happy.

First impressions really matter. The way you greet them is going to define how they treat you, and the size of your tip.

There are a lot of jerks out there. And stupid, ignorant people. You have to grit your teeth and tolerate them. Just keep in mind that the only thing worse than working for them is being them.

You should make an organized plan on your first day. You should know the tables you are responsible for, how long it’ll take to produce the food, etc. Working in a restaurant is a matter of habit.

And a few other things.

thanks guys. yeah basically all the bad things i’ve heard about working in a restaurant has to do with your superiors blaming **** on you that didn’t do and stuff like that. oh well, i think i can handle it.

and only 2 responses? i guess cc’ers are too busy prepping for the their next year over the summer to have a job. ;)
