Anyone ever had a successful merit aid appeal?

Colonial 2016 hopeful here-- got accepted with 0 merit aid and an offer of $5,500 in unsubsidized loans (didn't apply for need-based aid because my EFC was pretty high so I wouldn't I'd receive any). I'm in that perfect middle class bubble where my EFC was too high for need-based, but my family doesn't make enough money to pay for GW out of pocket so I would need at least a little help from the school. I wrote the school a letter explaining the situation and pointing out how awesome GW is and how much I want to go there blah blah blah. I'm not asking for a ton of scholarship, like 10k, so I'm really hoping they can give it to me because GW is my #1 school, but the money has to be right to make that happen. I also included a competing offer for another high ranked school that gave my 12k in scholarship.

Anyways, anyone had/heard of a successful merit appeal at GW ever?

Judging by others experiences with financial aid @ gw on the forum, I don’t think they would budge. 10k is A LOT to ask for. You may be able to get 1 to 2k maybe even 5k… at best. If the 12k scholarship is at a higher ranked school, you might have a better chance (though, i doubt it. GW doesn’t give out a ton). If its not higher ranked, well yikes!

Good luck though!
