Anyone ever had luck getting into a class this way?

There's a class I want to take this summer, but it's currently full. My advisor didn't seem to be willing to put me in it through means of override.

A friend suggested that I just attend the first day of the class and write my name on the attendance sheet. Has that ever worked for anyone else?

I don’t think you can just “squat” your way into the class. They might not throw you out, but you won’t be in the system either.

Do you know who the professor is? Maybe you can write a nice email, politely begging to be allowed in.

Yeah, that doesn’t work. You’d still have to be added via myFSU to actually be IN the class.

Going the first day though is the suggested way of getting into a class. When I first started, attending the first day was explained to me as a way of showing that you wanted the class, and unofficially was a way of you being sort of on the wait list if a spot opened because someone didn’t show (professors are technically supposed to immediately report First Day Attendance to their department to be checked/updated).

The easiest way to get added if it’s full really is to just go the first day, talk to the professor, and ask them if you can somehow be added if a spot opens up. Unfortunately, that really only works if the professor and the department want to work with you, and if there’s not a bunch of people waiting for a spot in the class.

Right, I didn’t mean to suggest that I thought it was as simple that, haha. Thanks for the advice, you two, though! I’ll give it a shot.
