Anyone ever hear of something like this?

That GC is despicable. Exactly who the **** do they think they are?

If I was the girl I'd write a letter to JHU saying what happened. Their outrage might be enough to get her accepted, lol.

And Exilio: you are hilarious. The GC has a right to draw a line? An arbitrary line that is in total dereliction of their job? Should cops be able to arrest and execute whoever they feel like? Should they tell poor people that they are not good enough for a lawyer? Your argument is truly one of the most asinine things I've ever read.

a good GC will encourage their students to apply to good colleges and help them out throughout the process. this may also include developing a good list of reaches, matches, and safeties, so that we dont have a 2.0 student applying to JHU.

however, the OP's friend does stand a chance at JHU, and i find it very disappointing that the GC isnt taking the effort to encourage the friend to endeavor for a slight/reach school.

PLUS she seems like a good student too

holden--if you get any update on what your friend ended up doing please let us know. I hope she got that horrible GC in trouble!

"The student may REQUEST a letter of recommendation, they are not entitled to have one. They must earn it."

And so who decides that the applicant isn't good enough to get into Johns Hopkins? The GC isn't the adcom. That's just one ing arrogant peice of *ing *** trash right there.

She seems like a very strong candidate for JHU.... I don't understand what the GC is getting at. Is there anything else to the story that we are not hearing? The GC's behavior is hardly defendable, but there must be some explanation.

We should hang that GC because there are many some ppl who really can't go to college even if they had great recommendations. That GC is just being a purple maltworm.

catcher in the rye rocks. (holdencaufield2)

you can probably get your guidance counselor fired...or at least complain to the school board to make them do something. it's not the GC's job to "decide" if he/she feels like completing a rec. i say take some action soon...wait till like apps are over and the busy-ness of spring dies down and then TOUCHE.

uuugh, i can't wait till i get to do this...

I go to the school with girl holden is mentioning. If anyone is more deserving of a positive rec letter its her. She does more work (school, volunteer service, etc.) than anyone else I know. I wouldn't fire the GC for reasons that i'll keep between myself and holden.
