Anyone ever heard of this place or know anything about it?

Does anyone know anything about The New College of Florida? I've been to the website and therefore got some information from there. I was just looking to hear what actual people have heard or know of it. I'd love and appreciate any information you have. The only other schools I'm definitely looking at are UNC-CH, University of Florida, and University of Arizona. Does The New College of Florida compare at all to these schools or how does it measure up. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

My niece just finished her freshman year there and is extremely happy with her classes and with the personal attention that she receives from her professors.

I am told that the campus is beautiful.

I know two different people who attended the school. One for photography and other art.....who later finished in London. She liked it but was very talented and soon ran through the program options. She would start there again actually. Another, guy who was studying for salt water reef habitat and is now in law school for that very thing. He loved it and would say it served him well.

Hard to compare New College of Florida and U of F. New College has 700ish students. Total. (UF has intro freshman courses with 700 per class.) It is a small honors college with individualized instruction. You probably would have to visit the two, esp New College, to get a good feel for the differences.

I've been to UofF. I just heard of New College of Florida. I am aware that it is extremely small. The description on Princeton Review is quite colorful and sounds like somewhere I'd get along. I was just curious about whether or not they'd offer me a decent science program. I know UNC is a good school as well as UofF I'm just not sure about this one.

Here are some photos from NCF's commencement ceremony: http://www.ncf.edu/PublicAffairs/Documents/commencement2006_2.htm

It's a great school, easily the best in FL, if you fit in with that lifestyle (just look at the pics). If you're a conservative like I am....then not so much.

I am aware of their not so conservative ideas which is one reason I found it interesting. I was not however aware that it was easily the best school in Florida, which is quite interesting to me. Thank you for the info.

New College is really liberal. This can be either good or bad. I've heard that they are really lax about everything there (including drugs? I'm not sure). The person I know attending there is really happy with the school. I think New College is kinda out of sync with the other schools you're looking at, which are large universities. You should visit.

kapalua, based on test scores it definitely is. (Aside from the Honors Colleges at like UF or FSU). The thing is it's the only liberal artsy type school in Florida that actually matters. If it's your cup of tea then you should look into it.
P.S. It's technically part of USF right?

They finally broke apart and became independent a few years ago, and that's why people are finally talking about it. It's a really good school if you like the very small LAC environment.

My kids called it the 'blue hair school' and declined to apply. Very small, very liberal. Conservative kids get harassed at NCF. Marijuana is virtually a major at NCF, so I hear.

Nice LAC UG academics, but not a research school like FSU or UFL.
