Curious if anyone here has taken a Derek Owens course and taken the SAT or ACT. I am curious if Derek Owens courses prepare on with rigorous enough math to do well standardized test such as SAT/ACT, SAT II.
DD is planning on taking geometry course from Derek Owens.
There isn’t a whole lot of geometry on the SAT. Mostly students need to know similar triangles, determining the size of interior and exterior angles for regular polygons, congruent triangles, and all the relationships between angles when you have a transversal cutting across two parallel lines.
I think his physics course would probably prepare fairly well for the physics SAT-II, but I would recommend doing several practice tests also to get the wording down. For extra practice, the multiple choice section of the Physics AP-B test is very similar to the SAT-II test, although that might have changed since the Physics AP-B test has changed.
I have seen good posts about Derek Owen’s courses on the high school board of the WTM forums.
My son took the online Geometry class from Mr. Owens and it prepared him very well for testing. Not sure where you are, but we are local to him, so my DS took Honors Geometry on-line this past summer and is currently taking Honors Physics and Honors PreCalc from him this year IRL. My son and I have been very happy with his teaching whether online or in class.
Thank you very much. we are in west Texas so we will do the asynchronous class.
