It sucks that you got rejected with such a high GPA, but Tufts syndrome usually applies to private schools’ freshmen admissions process. It makes no sense for UCLA to practice it with CCC transfers - actually, with almost any transfers at all.

Oh, I don’t know where I got 4 from. Anyway, the only reason I can see for your rejection is the missing prereqs, unless you have some other theory.

Furthermore, UCLA is not going to tuft a 3.9GPA out of a CCC, due to high inclination of CCC applicants to enroll in a UC; which only leaves UCB to recruit from the UCLA potential enrollees.

I know it usually applies to private schools. However, UCLA is regarded more as a #2 pick school in California for transfers, when compared with UCB. I don’t want to offend any Bruins lovers, but that is generally the truth in most people’s eyes. If it was not tufts, it is impossible to explain why I was rejected. I’ll just chalk it up as a coin toss. I called heads, but UCLA landed on tails.

You really are not weighting the importance of prereqs as much as you should; this is why you got rejected.

You’re not weighing the fact that people with lower stats than me are admitted with missing 1-2 pre-reqs at UCLA is common.

i would have been more surprised if i had been admitted.

Yes, but those are extremely rare, and any evidence thereof is bound to be anecdotal.

You were not tufted by UCLA, you were rejected due to your prereq situation.

I didn’t know that the word common was a synonym for rare…

Like I said, I could probably ■■■■■ for a good 30 min and pull countless admits with missing pre-reqs. So, I’m sorry not rare.

At no point did I say I was tufted. I only said I feel like I was tufted. My prereqs situation is abysmal, since there are many applicants who make it into UCLA without all of their requirements.

I would say that this was about 1/5 of the admits into UCLA, and that’s just from one thread. I’d also like to note that there are people who completed their pre-reqs with very high stats that also get denied from UCLA.

I would like to see that.

And if you do from last year, keep in mind the contracted acceptance rate this year in comparison.

EDIT - Beat me to it, lol. Also, keep in mind, that if a CCC does not offer the course, or there are scheduling conflictions, the UC adcom will take that into account; otherwise, if the prereq was simply not taken without a proper excuse it is counted against the applicant.

Done before you posted a reply. I included the admits from this year.

I think if you found some examples changusmc you would help support your theory. Personally, I have never seen anyone get into UCLA without their prereqs finished by the end of the summer session, regardless of GPA. I’m behind you 100% though they shouldn’t have rejected you! Get some killer!

Which prereqs where you missing?

dude changusmc, 2 missing pre-reqs ARE big deal.

You gotto have some good excuse for missing a pre-req. Like Ektaylor said some pretty legit ones are that your CC simply does not offer them, or you have to have written one pretty bomb ass essay. It’s safe to assume most rejections with good stats are due to pre-reqs

From assist.org for Computer Science:

You should complete the entire Physics Series at one community college (or
at community colleges within the same district where courses are exact
equivalents).

Go to: [HSSEAS OASA | Transfer Requirements](http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/prospective/articulation.html#majors)

Even here the completion of Physics courses are emphasized for the transfers. Looks like you made a huge mistake for deciding to not complete the physics series.

so what if i complete ALL of my pre reqs for my alt major ( chem E) with a competitive gpa? stupid la, whats so hard about looking at alt major and why do they even bother to ask.

seriously, I got in with a 3.2 GPA

Even ignoring the uncompleted pre-reqs, remember that you are not defined by your GPA - UCLA practices holistic admissions. You can have a very strong GPA and still be rejected. It happens all the time. Combined with your 2 missing prereqs, I think that’s sufficient enough explanation.

Indeed, transfer admission is almost the same as freshmen admission: GPA, courses taken, and EC can only give a very rough outlook on your chance of acceptance, in no way does having a “better than average” stat guarantees or even reflects a high chance of acceptance.

If you look into the threads of College Admission, you’ll read that the common mistake most rejectees do is compare themselves to those who were accepted. If they had higher stats in general, they’ll take the rejection as sour grapes (generally).

If you had to choose, the incompletion of pre-requisite of your major has a much higher factor than “demonstrated interest” for any UCs. This includes UC Berkeley.
