I am. This will be the first time I go to SanFran.

just to help you out so you don't offend the locals... don't ever call it anything other than "san francisco" or "the city"

Lol. I'm going to Frisco next week.

for sure. thursday 330 southewest to oakland. :) right near SAN FRAN. hahaha. hella socal for life.

nope, but im making the five minute drive to campus

i am! wohooooo! see you all there.

i live near campus anyway

I've never been to such a big city. Sound funny ?

Yeah, "San Fran" and "Frisco" don't really fly with some of my friends we live up north. Abbreviations are usually SF I think.

"I've never been to such a big city. Sound funny ?"

San Francisco is not really that big, but it is a favorite tourist spot of worldwide travellers. SF itself is a compact city of 750,000 people. The Bay Area is a huge metropolis with over 6 million, a mass of freeways, malls and track housing, and not a lot of open space. The little open space we have here is beautiful, especially along the ocean.

Berkeley's population is about 102k, and it's a challenge to tell one city from another until you get out into the suburbs. The urban areas around UC Berkeley (Berkeley, Oakland, Richmond) pretty much look alike.

Cal is a campus that people either love or hate. There doesn't seem to be a lot of in between. Do evaluate the campus separately from the city it is in. They are two very different experiences that have a common link. People sometimes love the Cal campus but don't care for the city of Berkeley.

I don't know how long your stay in the Bay Area will be but hope you will get a chance to visit San Francisco, ride a cable car to the stars and dip your toe in the Pacific Ocean.

yeah right. Fly 3000 miles away after a week's notice?!

Yeah, I live in San Francisco, and any nicknames other than "SF" or "The City" bother me and everyone else I know. Thanks, j3ff. Anyway, twitb, have fun on your visit! Northern California is quite nice, and I'm not just saying that because I'm from here :)

I'm flying to Cal this Thursday for the Bridges Senior Weekend Program. I've been to NorCal and SFO many times before; I have lotsa relatives there, and they might come to Berkeley on Cal Day to take a look around with me.

Someone told me that Cal is PAYING for us to go to Cal day. I seriously doubt this, but i'm just checking to make sure. Thoughts?

Cal is paying me to go to Cal Day and for the Senior Weekend. They paid for my flight, found an overnight host, and are letting me eat in the dining halls.

Yes, Cal is paying for my roundtrip airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and food. The main reason I'm going to their weekend program is because it's all FREE!

All non nor-cal folk better be ready for an onslaught of the word hella and yes, as stated above, it is only SF or San Francisco not "Frisco." No worries though, you'll pick up on nor-cal slang in no time :).

I say "SFO". :P

sfo is the airport lol

We don't want to fly into SFO though; Oakland is better and closer I think.
