Anyone from Australia?

I just finished Year 12 (Senior Year for Australians) in Australia and was thinking about applying for colleges in America for 2011. Does anyone know the process and if the ATAR score for my Australian education will mean anything to American colleges?

Hey!
Yeah i’ve heard from a girl who had a yale alum interview that they don’t place THAT much emphasis on the atar, but value more the overall transcript. Also, what exactly do you want to know about the process?

Is there an organization that’ll help students with applying for colleges? Or do we have to apply individually to each individual college? There’s a lot of talk on these boards about advisors and stuff, and my school doesn’t have any of them!

I’m sure ATAR helps. Most Australians I know at Harvard or Yale who weren’t recruited for sport scored 99.95, but I do know of two 99.85s. And yeah, support within Australia is really limited  You’re pretty much on your own…

@Leize88 please check your message. Currently I’d love to do some pro bono consulting.

EducationUSA has several advising centers in Australia. This is a not-for-profit organization that receives some support from the US government for the specific purpose of helping students like you find good places to study in the US. Many of the counselors are volunteers who graduated from colleges and universities in the US. Sorry I don’t have a link to the website - I’m writing this on my I-Touch. If you google for EducationUSA you will find it.

Good luck to all of you!!!
