Any international students from Bangladesh?

Well, NBZ is one..havnt seen him for a while though...(I m Indian btw...)
Anyways..Hi digbaji..welcome to CC...

hey digbaji(!)...im from bangladesh...wich places r u applying to?

I'm from Bangladesh too, as isaac pointed out.

Since we have a fair number of people from Bangladesh here, why not make this the Bangladeshi thread?

I'm especially interested to know if there is anyone applying abroad after studying under the SSC/HSC curriculum. (Everyone I know seems to have done A'Levels.)

I've applied to NC State, UNC Chapel Hill and East carolina. I am also applying to Duke and Wakeforest.
NBZ and Aranya, what r u guyz doing? R u in college or applying?
I did my Olevels in Bangladesh. And then 11th and 12th Grade in USA. Now waiting to graduate from 12th grade. Im gonna start college from August 2007.
Yes, NBZ lets make it a Bangladeshi thread!

Me from bgd too. Living in the middle east. All b.deshis here lurking around--let yourself known!

We have got quite a few people here, so it's about time we got a discussion rolling. (no pun intended :))

To start with, we can all post our college lists. If you want to you can post your stats too, but I for one am too lazy to do that.

So here's my college list as of now:

Singapore: NUS
Hong Kong: HKUST

aaah i have the biggest college list!! here goes: brown, bates, colby, carleton, columbia, mit, harvard, princeton, northwestern, trinity college, bryn mawr, brandeis, lafayette, williams, wesleyan, middlebury, duke, grinnell and.....Vassar.

And yes, i need full financial aid.
will i ever get into college???

ow, sat I breakdown: CR--760, math--710, W-720

Great Stats Aranya.
DOnt worry about financial aids.I have a friend who got in Richmond University with full scholarship.She graduated from Scholatica. Have u already applied to harvard?
Aranya, how did u prepare for the SAT?Did ur O and Alevels helped or u read the SAT book?
NBZ and ABOUTIME did u get accepted anywhere?I know a Bangladeshi who goes to Singapore NUS.He made 10As in Olevels and 5 As in Alevels!
And Aranya,I think if u want full scholarship,apply to some public colleges.Private colleges r way too expensive!

<i know="" a="" bangladeshi="" who="" goes="" to="" singapore="" nus.he="" made="" 10as="" in="" olevels="" and="" 5="" as="" alevels!="">
<i know="" a="" bangladeshi="" who="" goes="" to="" singapore="" nus.he="" made="" 10as="" in="" olevels="" and="" 5="" as="" alevels!="">

Yeah I know him as well as his twin brother who has equally amazing results and who also studies at NUS.

<and aranya,i="" think="" if="" u="" want="" full="" scholarship,apply="" to="" some="" public="" colleges.private="" colleges="" r="" way="" too="" expensive!=""></and>

Unfortunately public colleges have almost no financial aid for internationals, and the scholarships they do have are ultra-competitive. Private colleges, on the other hand, might cost more on paper but are generally more lenient when it comes to financial aid.

hey, I am from bangladesh too! hi everybody!

Well, NBZ u know what, private colleges do offer dazzling scholarships.But once u get accepted and start college, they charge u like crazy.Well, I dont know about internationals, but even the citizens of America do not prefer private colleges.

NBZ, the one I know doesn't have a twin brother.May be u r talking of smbdy else.

digbaji, about the SAT prep, O and A levels don't really help much with SAT I because we've never learnt english during O Levels the way its tested on the SAT. Best prep strategy wud be to solve collegeboard/kaplan practice tests, mark out the words you dont know, find meanings and revise them periodically. and as for math, only 3-4 mistakes can bring down the score by 100 or so points...my problem was i did it too fast and made stupid mistakes...aaah.
As for SAT II subject tests, for physics and chemistry it did help a little to be doing A levels, but I suppose just studying barrons or princeton and solving their questions is enough. and Math IIC, i prolly skipped 10 q's and ended up with a 750--good score curve.
i dint apply to any public colleges because of the same reasons NBZ mentioned.
anyway, hope we're all heading to college in the fall!
ps. I did apply to harvard. NBZ did u give the interview? I requested for one and they said no alumni reps available. but then again, some ppl doing ED from bd (lol) gave interviews n stuff...

Thank you Aranya, ur information was helpful.
Well, for me my Olevels really helped for SATII and A.P Tests.I was just wndering, can't international students take AP, CLEP or IB tests?Though ur ALevels will probably give u gud amount of college credits.
I gave my Olevels in BD and made 9 As.My high school counselors even didnot keep a copy of my Olevel transcript and didn't understand at all what Olevel means.All they wanted was my 9th and 10th grade report cards.Do u think colleges might give me some creidts for Olevels?

Well of-course int'ls can giv APs,IB...I never heard of CLEP(or might hav heard if u elaborate bout it)..so no comments on this...
well, if u dont apply to private colleges then where??(note-private colleges includes Ivies,Stanford n all)..
If ur O-levels r outstanding than ur 10th marks, then u better send O-levels marks...another reason is that O-levels r highly recognised..

colleges generally ask for the official O Level Certificate. I think you should def send it in since u did ace it lol. but then u wont get any college credit as such for o levels (according to all the counselors ive toked to)...i dont think we'll get any advance standing with a levels either...at most can skip a few courses perhaps...

Hey aranya i didn't get a harvard interview either, I emailed them asking for the list of interviewers and it had no one from Bangladesh. What it means is I won't be doing any interviews at all, which is a bit of a relief. :)

Digbaji, definitely send a copy of your O'Level certificate (preferably attested by your school counselor) if you think it will help your application.

APs and CLEP aren't widely available outside the US, but the IB curriculum is used in a lot of countries. In Bangladesh, though, O'Levels/A'Levels seem to be the norm.

Another Bangali here!
