Hey,
I'm a high school sr. and my top choice is New College of Florida. I'm attracted to it because of its "choose your own major" system, evaluations instead of test grades, small classes, and the overall friendliness it seems to have.
Anyone who goes to this school or knows someone close to them who goes there, can you tell me a little bit about student life? I know the art/writing/drama resources are great, but would I have difficulty finding people to check out parties and clubs with, too? I know it's pretty liberal - exactly how liberal are the people there? What is dorm life like there, and what things do most people tend to like to do?
Not trying to generalize everyone who goes to the school, or anything. I just want to make sure I go somewhere where I'll feel like I fit in. ;)
Thanks...

Bump

I'm interested in NCF, too.

My friend from Ocalla says its a drug haven :)

Better to be a safe haven than push drugs off campus where students' lives are at risk.

btw, it's spelled Ocala. :P

i know the people are really liberal. i'm not ultra-conservative to the point of being rigid but i'm also not flamboyantly liberal (more like 50/50). i do have some liberal views, like support gay marraige rights, immigration, etc. but..i support the military and the death penalty when it's needed and i'm pro-life. will people give me crap for those views if everybody there is super liberal?
don't mean to start a huge political thing or anything...i just don't want to go somewhere where my views will be bashed on and i won't fit in.

I've heard some good stuff about it. It's definitely really liberal. I think the sciences there are really strong, and they have some cool research oriented programs. Pretty hippyish I would say.

but...if everybody is super politically active (which i know they are), and super liberal are they going to give me crap on my views?? or even if i don't share them and they don't say anything to me personally, will i still feel like an outsider? or are politicall opinions not as big of a deal among students there?

One of my HS friends who for all intents and purposes was a communist, says he feels conservative at New College.

That shouldn't keep you from considering it though. I have friends from all throughout the political spectrum... it keeps things interesting. I think a bigger common ground at NCF is the debauchery that goes on there :).

What is debauchery?? lol...
and your HS friend is OK with that? he doesn't feel like an outsider or anything?

One of the defining characteristics of New College is acceptance. This means you will not be ostracized for your political and/or personal views. This also means that you will have non-traditional classmates who are communist, socialist, transgendered, cross-dressing, etc. New College students are passionate about their causes, but warm and welcoming of all who are equally open minded.

oooookay. i feel good now.
That's what I thought...THANNKS =)

You're very welcome!

Ooh, thank you both! Dramakitty92428 for asking and dntw8up for answering. Right now New College is my top choice. I am a Democrat, but I am very accepting of other peoples' point of views, so I started to worry that I would have to rethink my choices if New College weren't accepting of other peoples' political views. Dntw's answer just reaffirmed my views of the college :)
