Did anyone get a call from a current UCLA student (not an automated call) inviting them to apply for a merit scholarship and do you know if it means anything? The caller ID said UCLA and the gal gave the website for the application so I know it wasn't a joke. Thanks.

What's the site?

I didn't get a call, but I've never heard of a merit scholarship offered by a current student.

It was for the alumni association, I think anyone can apply. UCLA Alumni Association. But I thought it odd that someone would call personally. Did get an e-mail a couple of weeks ago but didn't think too much of it. Now will apply.

I just received the call. Very weird, haha. The girl was very nice.

I got it too. I wish I'd asked if the call means anything.
I mean, do they call everyone who's qualified and has not yet applied, or how does that work?

Does anyone know?

Top 10% of the applicants who have not applied for the scholarship get called. In other words, your chances of admission are very good.

I just got called as well.

CalParent- just curious were you got the info.......thanks

Daughter got the call as well.

Alumni Association Scholarship is open to everybody - the amt is less than Regents of course, but it's pretty nice still.

From the person who called.

This is the Freshman Scholarship, right? I got an e-mail from the Association. Is that just as good?

calparent - so if i got a call - I'm in the top 10% of applicants? should i be excited?
i haven't applied yet but i have an account and everything. wouldn't they see that?

Well, UCLA accepts top 20 some percent of its applicants...

You guys have it wrong. I am a caller for the Alumni Association and the fact that you were called means absolutely NOTHING in terms of admissions. You can easily still be rejected, so don't get your hopes up too high.

thanks sparkle for the fyi :/
