anyone get accepted at exeter whos not going?

I also turned down Milton Academy but I don’t think I should say that here lest someone finds out my identity…
Did I just make a stupid mistake?

Why did you choose Peddie over Milton? I thought Milton is better.

Academically, yes, Milton is better.
But during my revisit days, I did not feel a great pull toward Milton, whereas Peddie was incredibly welcoming and warm. My gut told me Peddie, and I went with my gut.

Are you going to Peddie for any specific sport or are you going as a day student? I’m considering these two schools for next year.

Nah, I’m a math and science geek, not an athlete.
And I’ll be a boarder.
If you are considering these schools next year, are you still in the 7th grade? And yes, I highly recommend applying to both - they are amazing in their own unique ways. I also recommend Hotchkiss, Exeter, and SPS.

I love math/sci, not a geek though. Have you attended any math/science classes at Milton during your visit/revisits? If you did, how did you like them? Are they intense? How are their Science labs?

I went to a geometry class during Milton (no science), and I have to say, I did not like it. The teaching style did not fit my learning style, but of course, this differs for everyone. I wouldn’t say it is intense, but not super easy either. What happened was the kids got a bunch of problems to solve and could talk while doing so; it was all gone over at the end.

Thanks. Good luck to you at Peddie! As they say on CC, the school you pick is the right school. :)

Thank you very much. I really looking forward to seeing the Hightstown campus once more!!!
And in regards to making your decision - don’t sweat it. It only took me a day and a half to stop all the what-ifs from going through my mind, and I consoled myself by saying that it’s the knowledge that I was accepted to Exeter that made me ecstatic - I would not actually want to attend. :)

Pulsar, did you apply for anywhere this year or are you just looking for schools for next year?

next year.

My son picked Deerfield over Exeter.

Hi Pulsar! I was looking through past posts, and realized that you had posed a question to me a while ago – about why I chose Hotchkiss over Exeter. I didn’t get a chance to answer it sooner, cause I haven’t had time to go on CC in awhile. :frowning:

I’ll answer it now though, in case you still want to know. :)

I chose Hotchkiss over Exeter for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the most significant of them all, however, is that when I revisited, I didn’t feel at ease. There were so many students everywhere that I felt like I was lost in the middle of New York. I felt just one out of a million, another brainiac that didn’t have any particular significance. Granted, the classes were small and challenging, and I liked the Harkness method of teaching that they implemented in every class, but despite all that, I knew I could never feel comfortable at Exeter, and so I knew it wasn’t the right place for me.

When I revisited Hotchkiss though, I was warmly received and felt very relaxed from the moment I stepped through the doors. I felt like I would have significance if I attended, and not just be another kid. The classes were just as small and challenging as they were at Exeter, and although Hotchkiss didn’t implement the Harkness method in every class like Exeter, it applied it in the two I think are best suited for it, English and History. (They use it in other classes too; English and History are just the only core classes it’s used in.)When it came down to it, I consulted my gut, and Hotchkiss just felt ‘right’. So I knew it was the place for me. Can’t wait to attend in September!

Hi Luckyduckyme, Congrats and good luck at Hotchkiss! Thanks for your thoughts on these two schools. I don’t know whether you are math/sci oriented or not; If you were, would you have made the same decision?

Haha… Actually Pulsar, I’m a little weird in that respect. ;)

People always associate math & science with each other and english & history with each other. Most people are good at one pair or the other.

I’m actually good at all of them, but strongest in Science and English. :stuck_out_tongue: I know, you don’t usually pair them together… :P

But yes, regardless of what I happened to be the best at I think I would have made the same choice. For two main reasons: The first being that for me, emotional comfort trumps all else, cause I’m one of those people who has a hard time doing my best when I’m not content.

The second and probably more significant reason is that I’m a MEGA HUUGEE debater. As in… I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT DEBATE TEAM. Seeing as Hotchkiss has one of the best, if not the best, high school debate teams in America, It would have always been my top choice. :)

Good for you Luckyduckyme!
I went on a visit to Hotchkiss, and noted that all the students were really nice and the facilities were INCREDIBLE.

Thanks so much, 5schoolapplicant!!!

And just for the record, even though it’s probably really obvious, I definately agree with your assesment of Hotchkiss! When I revisited there I noticed the same things you did, and could tell it was the right place for me. ;)

Haha I just noticed that I mention Hotchkiss being “the right place for me” a lot! Sorry if it sounds kind of pompous and annoying-- I didn’t mean for it to! It’s what I really believe. Plus, I think I’m just overly excited to be going there next year. ;)
