Anyone get accepted to Columbia with the SAT II level 1 math?

I have to pick two sat II tests to take and i will be applying to Columbia in the fall. If i take the math level 1 ,instead of level 2, and get a high score then will Columbia view that as bad or good. So if im applying to Columbia, should i take the level 1 math?

The short answer:

If you're applying to CC:
if you'll do better on the SATII Math IC, take that. only go for the IIC if you're confident you can score above 700 on it.

If applying to SEAS, you really need to take the IIC.

Any other questions, email me.

Did you get accepted to Columbia? k what if take bio sat ll and math IC ONLY. will i still have a good chance for admission to columbia? the writing section will be required with the new sat

i got accepted

i took the 1C

how many sat IIs did you take? which ones?

yep. I took 1 and 2 (but 1 was higher). I applied to the college.

I was accepted with a 68o on the 1. Don't let collegeconfidential skew your perceoption of the admissions process, it's genuinely not primarily about stats. Just do your best and make sure your scores are adequate.

quantifyme or anyone, I know this is a tad tangential, but what would be a competitive ACT score--rather a decent score for Columbia?

I'm not sure, I was accpeted with a 1500 SATI, probably a 32 or above would be considered adequate, but be smart about which test you take. If your subject oriented go wth the act, if you're generally a good test taker I'd recommend the SAT, then study specifically for the II's.

I got accepted without a math SATII. I took US History, English and Spanish Language.

What's the SEAS as opposed to the CC?

here's what i took

SAT 1 - 1400 (730 math) - only took it once

SAT II's

US History - 690
Math IC - 760
Writing - 720

SEAS = School of Engineering and Applied Science

CC = Columbia college

i did really poorly in the bio sat 2 which i took in freshman year. like it's 270 points lower than my highest sat 2. is that going to hurt my chances of admission to columbia with a 1400 sat score (2110) , 750 U.S histroy and 700 math 1C. stressful.

I didn't take the math sat2 and I got in. but I'm an international so that might be different.

You actually may score better taking the Math 2C exam.
I can’t find my SAT booklet (probably discarded it!), but it has a very curious statement about this question - something to the effect of “if you have the preparation to take the 2C exam and choose to take the 1C exam because you think you will get a better grade, you may be surprised.”

I asked a college counselor about this, and he pointed out that the two exams have very different scales – you can get a lot of wrong answers on the 2C and still get a high score. An 800 on the 2C exam is only 90th percentile. A score of 600 is 51st percentile on the 1C exam but only 23rd percentile on the 2C. So the average scores on the 2C are substantially higher (50th percentile on the 2C is probably somewhere around 680)..

Bottom line: if you know the material for the 2C exam you should take it – you are likely to come away with a higher score than you would on the 1C. And when people eyeball your scores, the score itself rather than the percentile is what they see.
