Everyone who is applying for financial aid gets sent this request, regardless of admission status, correct?

yes...=] so they can determine your financial aid package IF your accepted.

I just don't get why they would want to receive thousands of documents when many of those students will not be accepted. Why not wait until the admissions office tells them who is on the accepted list?

Because they need to send their financial aid packages with acceptances. Students don't usually decide on a university without that kind of information.

Right, so...wouldn't you assume that they are only requesting IDOC stuff of students likely to be accepted, then?

..I understand what you're trying to get at. But the fact is that they don't work like that? lol I have given up trying to "logically" figure out the admissions process. A lot of schools request IDOC from EVERYONE who wants financial aid. I had to submit it for both Georgetown and MIT. And I'm DEFINITELY not accepted into MIT lol doubt I will even be in March or April. It is pointless sending all these documents to schools you don't even know if they accept you, trust me I know.

bump.........

IDOC was requested from everyone. It would be nearly impossible to request from only admitted students. That would mean that all admissions decisions would have to made by early February and that is not going to happen. What the school does is request from everybody, it does not mean they will look at it. The only financial aid requests that are actually reviewed are those of admitted students. In other words, by requesting from everyone once the admission decision is made the school has what they need to proceed to the financial aid peace. Sorry to burst your bubble but that is how it works. Think about Georgetown trying to make all their admissions decision by early February. Heck, they do not even have everyone's mid-year report by then.
