ok, so theres a thread for all the other res halls....am i the only one in De Neve? =P

i got de neve! im in a triple..haha......and i know!!! i was surprised there wasnt a thread for de neve too!!!

I got De Neve too - double!

Wow, you're lucky you got a double, i envy you hehehe.

I got De Neve triple too, just gonna make the most of it. I figured I won't be spending too much time in my dorm. Just a place to store my stuff and sleep.

Oh yeah, has anyone seen how the de neve double/triples look like? I went last year and i don't really remember. Are they the same size or bigger than the res halls? They don't have the virtual tour for De Neve on the housing site yet, so I'm just getting ideas based on the res hall virtual tour...

i really hope they arent like the sunset rooms....on the housing tour i took they took us to a sunset double and it was the SMALLEST room i've ever seen......i mean............SMALL.........and then they said that the triples were the EXACT same size!!!! i mean i've heard that the rooms are bigger than what i saw but i really hope de neve isnt like that.....::crosses fingers:: >_<

DeNeve rooms have really high ceilings with big windows... they seemed really nice to me when I visited.

De Neve triple!

Here's to throwing out half our furniture!

has anyone noticed how everyone either says de neve is really social or really quiet and lonely.........which is it?!?! the mixed responses is driving me crazy!!! im starting to think i should have gotten a residence hall since i dont want to be stuck in an anti social dorm......does anyone know current de neve residents and what they think about it?!? any info would be appreciated ^_^

lol and i'll be the one with laurak throwing out the furniture haha

"does anyone know current de neve residents and what they think about it?!?"

Yes, one of my good friends currently lives in De Neve. She loves it. In fact, she loves it soo much that she convinced me to room with her next year in De Neve. The social aspect primarily depends on those that live on the floor. Her floor is not quite as social as say my floor here in Rieber but, I've been in De Neve many times on her floor and there were quite a few people out and about and being social. Most likely you will not be the only first year on the floor so you'll have people to socialize with IF the second/third years are antisocial. And in the case during the first week no one's doors are open, just go around your floor, knock on doors, introduce yourself, and make friends. You'll have people to hang out with. Don't worry.

Bruinbee09,

I posted this a few days ago on the subform but I thought I'd post it again since you wanted to know what current students think. I e-mailed my friend who lives in DeNeve when I was trying to decide where to live. She shared her experiences with me:

"to answer housing, I cannot stress it enough: LIVE IN DE NEVE. don't even pick sunset (it's far and very secluded). DE NEVE, DE NEVE, DE NEVE. Not only is it referred to as the "hotel" of ucla, but it is the closest to bruinwalk/all of your classes (and believe me, when you wake up and have only 2 minutes to run your butt down bruinwalk to class, you will be more than thankful for this). Also, the dining hall is something like 5 steps away, you don't have to climb ANY of "the hill," and private bathrooms (which was a big factor for me). And don't believe all the b.s. about "res halls are the only way to meet friends." I've developed closer friendships with the people on my floor in de neve than I have in all of high school -- it's been a really incredible experience because you can be extremely close without feeling like you're being suffocated by them.

You get the convenience of close friendships while also having time to shut the door and have private time. Plus, the lounges are neat in de neve -- you can look out into the courtyard and all."

I think the reason there are such mixed results when it comes to housing is just because everyone's housing experience is different, and everyone has their own opinion about what is best based on their unique experiences. People who live in the residence halls their freshmen year find easy access to social life, whereas those who live in plazas have more privacy and convenience with social options available if they seek them. It seems like 95% of people are ultimately happy with where they are placed; it's pretty much a win-win situation either way, from what I've heard.

I ultimately decided on plazas because I'm outgoing and think I'll be able to make friends wherever I live.

Hopefully this helped!

wow thanks ckings86 and nobleguy05 i feel better about the whole de neve situation.....im outgoing also but it takes awhile for me to get comfortable enough to be outgoing so having outgoing people along with you helps the process hehe....i have another question......you know the the diff de neve buildings like acacia birch etc. ....are there differences between them? are certain ones better/worse.....or is it all the same?

One the topic of triples in De Neve, don't worry! There's enough room! We once pulled the one of the top bunk matresses down off the bed and layed it down cross wise on the floor. The distance btwn the bunks on both sides of the room is the length of one of the extra long twin mattresses. (We couldn't believe that it actually fit!) My friend lived in a triple fall quarter (don't ask why it's now a double - its a LONG story) and there was room for all three females (including all make-up, clothing, and etc.) As long as you and your roommates agree to keep your things put away you'll have enough room. I realize that it's somewhat of a task for some but, you all will have to compromise in some way if you're going to live together. But again, don't worry...you'll have room.

The only differences that I know of btwn the buildings are that Acacia and Birch have a small laundry room on each floor whereas all the other buildings in De Neve have one large laundry room on the bottom floor for the entire building. Also, just the relative proximity of each building is to the dining hall and front desk. They are all pretty close and it's not a long walk but, Acacia and Birch are attached to both where you don't even need to leave the building to get to either of them. Cedar, Dogwood and Evergreen are a short walk away. And by short I mean like tops 5 mins from Evergreen which I believe is the furthest away. Cedar however, is the one that everyone wants to be in primarily b/c of it's location. It's close to the res halls, close to the dining hall and a tad closer to campus compared to other buildings. But, for the most part, I think I'm pretty safe in saying that there really isn't too many differences btwn the buildings, they're all about the same.

Oh I forgot one, Fern - it's actually the furthest away I believe...
