Anyone get flat rejected from willams then get into amherst?

do i have any hope?

Undergrad admissions are inherently fairly random, so don't worry too much. Good luck!

Broom - My son got an early write from Amherst and likely letter from Midd, in at P'ton, but denied at Swat. So it's all too impossible to figure out. Nothing is for certain. Good luck!

One of my daughter's classmates several years ago was accepted at Amherst and rejected outright at williams. But it does not seem to happen very often--usually it is double or single waitlists

waitlisted at Williams, but accepted at Amherst.

Me too. I am going to turn down Williams. But I am considering UC Berkeley over Amherst. Any suggestions?

Williamsucks! Email Amherst and tell them you rejected Wils; they'll be sure to let you in;)

suloshfets:
I personally think that Amherst tops Berkeley in undergrad education in so many ways (class size, research opportunities, etc) and that berkeley is good only for grads. Just my opinion.

suloshfets:
Berkeley is does not provide a very good education; I have 7 friends going there. I sat in on one of their classes and was greeted by about 500 people; I watched the lecture on a video projection screen. How exciting is that? The campus is large and not nearly as clean as the Amherst campus. Housing is hard to get; I have a sophomore friend who already had to find her own apartment. Just think how far you'll be walking to classes. There are so many people that you get lost; your professors see you as a number and when my friend got sick on the day of her midterm and was in the hospital, the professor wouldn't hear it. Forget about playing a varsity sport or seeing the same people on a daily basis. Forget about starting your own club and actually getting funding to do it. So many of the students at my school got into Berk and it isn't nearly as selective as a place like Amherst. Amherst is absolutly wonderful; you know so many people, have so many opportunities, and the professors often have you to dinner in their own homes. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else!

Thanks, I will take it into consideration. I am from East Coast, and I thought I should broaden my horizon by experiencing the other part of the country. That is also why I am not so disappointed to be on the waiting list at Williams. It is a school in no where.

Suloshfets:
Stop pretending to be me. It's annoying.

that's exactly what happened to me, you definately have hope!

Williams: waitlisted
Amherst: accepted

I am still shocked at my acceptance. I definitely liked Amherst better ... not that I have visited either one of them yet. hahaha

Amherst: accepted (early write)
Williams: deferred ED, then waitlisted

Wow, a lot of ppl waitlisted at williams and accepted to amherst! I'm in that club as well...

I wonder if anyone on CC was rejected/waitlisted from Amherst and accepted to Willians?

that's my story.
but my essay for amherst was a killer

Just the opposite: got early write to Amherst, but was deferred ED then waitlisted at Williams.

I strangely got an early write for Williams but was waitlisted at Amherst. I wanted to go to Amherst a lot more, mainly because the surrounding area is much hipper, but what can you do. I live closer to Amherst (about 40 minutes away) so maybe that has something to do with it? Probably just random.

both better than me:

got accepted to williams

got nothing from amherst. am frustrated beyond normalcy
