Anyone get into Columbia with low SATs?

So has anyone gotten into Columbia with low SATs? Not recruited athletes..

define low...

and do you mean SAT I or IIs or both?

SAT 1 or IIs both ..low as in below 1300 like 640 math and 550 CR...

er...you probably can if you're got really good extenuating circumstances but as a rule, probably not. Middle 50 is somewhere between high 1300 and 1500ish, so it's possible just not probable.

But SATs don't make or break the app; there's tons of other stuff to consider. Don't be discouraged because you'll never know till you try. (And Columbia doesn't seem to punish trying, their app was such a relief after Northwestern's...)

what if someone has a low sat 1 score, but high sat 2 scores ..like about 700s

That you'd have to ask some admissions person. I have no idea. But depending on the subjects you chose, if you can make mid-700s on say Math II, you should be able to get 1400+ easily on SAT I.

Try your luck with SAT again?

SATs rn't everything. If u can prove urself by other means, that's much better. STOP OBSESSING OVER THE SATS! That's not the right state of mind u r supposed to be for columbia.

I'm just trying to be honest, so this isn't personal. With a sub-1300 SAT, your chances are pretty slim. The 25th percentile is in the high 13's. You figure that athletes, legacies, under-represented people (minority status, geography), etc. comprise much of the bottom quartile. However, people with low SATs can and do get in. There is no cutoff. But you shouldn't bet your life on it.

i have the opposite question. lets say someone has a 4.0 weighted gpa but they score a 2200 on their sat and 700+ on their sat IIs, and quality ec's, do you think they still will have a good chance of admission?

What do you "think" the cut off can be ? Although there is no cut off...like 1300 or 1250?

depends on everything else, I'd guess. If you've got awesome grades, ECs, etc, maybe you'd get some leeway on SATs

Icantthinkofone--With those numbers, you're as competitive as anyone. It is still competitive and most people with great numbers are still turned down. It depends on your ECs, essays, luck, etc.

Ivyleague99--You could say that below 1400ish is a cutoff. There is a difference between "this kid's SATs are good enough but not amazing, and everything else about this kid is stellar" and "this kid's SATs are significantly below what we like to see, but he is absolutely amazing in other ways."
