<p>I have pretty good SAT scores & EC’s etc but I found it very discouraging that it seemed everyone accepted was around the top 1%.</p>
<p>Anyone get accepted that was around top 5%?</p>

<p>I was ranked 12th out of 220. So I'm around top 5 percent. Class of '09.</p>
<p>So what made you stand out? Did you go to a private school?</p>
<p>im 50ish out of 440ish (seas 09), but there are things more important than rank.</p>
<p>I suppose I should tell you my story then. I have a 3.72 UW / 4.25 W GPA & am ranked 35/733. I have just been having this fear (since I thought my GPA was higher) that that one piece of info alone is enough to screw me for Penn. =)</p>
<p>Well I'm from Philadelphia and us city kids get a slight edge. We're sending 7 guys to penn this year, 8 were accepted. The lowest ranked was 28 out of 220.</p>
<p>oh wait, i forgot that my high school does not send class rank to penn, just gpa and transcript, though a bunch of other kids applied ed so they probably could have seen their grades too</p>
<p>i am not even in the top 20 of about 300 kids, because of all the hard class I have taken. And about 10 kids in the top 20 didn't get into the top 20 colleges...how ironic</p>
<p>Meh, stambliark41, I'm barely in the top 10% of my school and I have 4.1 WEIGHTED gpa. I also only got a 1460 on my SAT after taking it 3 times and had a low score of 630 on my Writing SAT II. In addition, my essays were last minute so I thought it was full of BS and my recs were fine but nothing spectacular. And trust me, I'm one of the most bland people you'll ever meet (well, maybe not, but I don't stand out on paper is what I'm saying). Yet, I was still accepted. I've got no idea what Penn admissions really focuses on but it seems to me that you have a very good chance. So no worries.</p>

<p>My school doesnt rank, doesnt do GPAs, and doesnt even have grades. How I got in im not sure, but theyve not told me to **** off yet...</p>

<p>mmm everyone from my school (4 kids) who were accepted were ranked... 1, 2, 3, 4! imagine that... and i go to a medium sized public high school.</p>
<p>im not top 15% unweighted....grades/rank are not everything....i think i have more knowledge than the people that get better grades</p>
