Anyone get into UCB/UCLA with GPA < 4.0?

Did anyone get into UC Berkeley or UCLA with LESS THAN A 4.0 WEIGHTED (this includes "a-g" transferrable college courses)?

Right now, I have a 3.90 weighted (this includes my sophomore/junior grades and one "a-g" transferrable community college course).

I have stellar extracurriculars and leadership positions and an SAT Subject score of 2260 and SAT Biology score of 760 and SAT U.S. History score of 720.

I know a few people who have. Your SAT is well above average so you should be fine, assuming you're from Cali.

o snap..i'm out of state and my GPA is 4.4...but your SAT scores are waaay better than mine...you still will have a higher chance than i do of getting n if you are in-state

There was someone from my school last year accepted to UCLA out of state with...let's just say a less than stellar GPA, like 3.6 unweighted, and his ACT was less than 32.

URM!! That's the key word. We had so many kids using the URM card and got into UCLA. UCB and the Ivy's the past year and with lots of much better qualified regular applicants left out in the cold. Some of these kids that got in were not that bright and I am sorry to say that they might not be able to keep up with the rigor of the programs and will probably quit or transfer out..... What a great way to utilize education opportunity! Yes, Affirmative action is such a great idea!

Jeez, I feel bad for URM's at good colleges. Everyone thinks they are there just because of the color of their skin..

UC's don't look at race

if they did, there would be more than 12 black students, and less than half asian

UC's are a little more number driven for the past couple of years, eve since they were caught giving admission to URM with ridiculously low scores. But last year they were under a lot of pressure from the liberal front for exactly that reason. And they figure out a way to get around that. Instead of using the color of your skin to define URM. They now use a category of " adversity overcome" as a way to give extra points to your admissions score. (Check the uc's admissions criteria link) That just blow the field wide open again. Tokenism makes everybody feels good. Who cares whether young America is getting the education one deserves or not. That's the sad but true state of our education here in this country.

It's worth pointing out that they also give credit for taking part in academic enrichment classes and the like that are only offered in minority schools, another side-step around the ban on considering race.

Equality breeds Mediocrity.
When would the people in power wake up.
Look at China, even a communist country is a tiered society. Even ants know better.

bioeng, the content of your last few posts is codswallop representing an ugly triumph of ideology over fact. 89% of the 2007 UCLA admittees had a high school GPA over 4.0. 96% over 3.7. Over 99% had a high school GPA over 3.3. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof07.htm I happen to know a couple of freshmen who are in the lower categories, and they aren't URM's (by a long shot.) What they are is recruited athletes.

UC has made a considered decision to base admissions decisions primarily on how well a student does in high school, as opposed to relying primarily on SATs or ACT scores. They based that decision on research which supported the conclusion that a student's high school GPA had a higher correlation to their performance in college (freshman year, anyway) than did SAT scores. (This sucks for my kids, by the way.) If you look at who is admitted to UCLA and Berkeley (and accept the fact that recruited athletes are an exception) you'll see that UC "walks the walk." There are relatively few URM's at UCLA or Berkeley, and the ones who are there (and aren't recruited athletes) have solid high school GPA's, just like everyone else who is admitted.

There are definitely a few people I know that have gained admission into those schools with less than a 4.0. Do you know what your GPA is unweighted?

Why does every post in CC always end up with bickering about race...

I wouldn't worry as much. You SATs look amazing, above the average I must say. Plus your class rank can help your gpa look better (like if your school is a tough school or not).

Just write a bomb essay to help yourself out.

bump bump bump bump

URM does nothing for UC. they are legally colorblind. Any boost in admissions is illegal.

bump bump bump

you have to take the math IIc subject test. it's required for UC's!!!

^ Not exactly

Two SAT Subject Tests.
These must be in two different areas, chosen from the following: English, history and social studies, mathematics (Level 2 only), science or language other than English.
