Anyone give up Cal for UCLA?

The pool is almost identical.

My mom got something in the mail from Berkeley yesterday about Cal Day.. didn't realize part of Cal Day is for incoming freshmen. My parents are going to go for me, it's not the same but will have to do for me.
Weird day at school yesterday, I have been on Spring Break since 3/30 and yesterday was 1st day back. Once teacher is UCLA Alumni (I don't think he owns any other kind of shirt or tie) and he spent 15 min telling me the reasons why to go to Cal over UCLA.
Drab: I will get back to you on Rhetoric after this week is over. Thanks for the offer.

Ask your guardians for a motorcycle if you decide to go to UCLA. That eliminates every problem transportation-wise. If you go to Cal, it'll be hard getting a car or motorcycle (chances are your motorcycle will die going uphill or someone will steal it). -- contribution from my Cal sister.

In general, Berkeley students are probably more prepared academically than students at UCLA. But at the highest levels of academic achievement, both schools are probably the same.

I don't hear much talk on these boards about the difference between UCLA being on the quarter system and Cal being on semester. This is a HUGE difference in my opinion, and I'm still bewildered at to why UCLA and the rest of the UCs are on quarters while Cal and the Ivies are on semester. When I was a student at Cal, it seemed UCLA students were ALWAYS studying for midterms and finals. It sucks! Like 4 weeks after school begins, UCLA has midterms. Its just a crazy, hectic schedule. Cal students can kick back for like 2 months before midterms, and then another 2 months before finals. I think its a huge disadvantage to be on the quarter system, and prospective students should really consider it before making a choice.

Did you know back in the day Berkeley was the only UC on the quarter system, and all the others were on the semester system? I think this was the 70's.

UCLAri, do you have the "applied" stats? How can they be almost identical if 7,000 more people apply to UCLA?

berkeley is the best UC (and i'm not even referring to rankings)

of course, its my opinion, and i would never choose la over b...but its not exactly as common as people make it seem, but at the same time its not a rare decision and its very fine to go to ucla over cal if thats what u want

Quarter System Advantage: No studying for finals or tests over breaks.

Wait wait what? Sorry, that's a semester system feature (other than spring break, although many students don't have any conflict). The first semester ends before winter break.

Except for Dartmouth, but who cares, right?

I mean in terms of overall academic stats, I'd be surprised if any of the UCLA applicants or Cal applicants were even a whole standard deviation apart from one another.

I am of course not counting the crazy outliers that get in.
