I just wanted to get some personal insight from students who are currently attending.

We know many at both schools, both are good colleges great money for instate students, both have good honors colleges. Do you have specific questions about programs , environment.

azmom, you are always there for advice and I really appreciate it. I think I have brought this up before but I am really lost and confused. I got into U of A and ASU honors and still have not picked, 3 days after I wanted too. I am a solid student, plan on majoring in biology, and would like to attend medical school. I am not too into partying am absolutely not into drugs, my concerns about ASU. I also don't know if I want to go live in Tucson, a town with little to no activity from what I hear. I am also not too impressed with ASU dorms, but I can deal. I really, really need some solid advice. No one can help me out and I need to make this decision now. Please give me as much advice as possible.

U of A has a lot to do, my friends that go there love it there and u really dont lose any social life, it has its own reputation for parties. U of A is also much much much better for medical field and entrance into medical school. U of A also has better dorms. overall i think u of a has a better college experience, asu's campus kinda sucks and though asu has mill avenue, u of a still has its own social life to offer. my friends there are never bored. dont worry about tucson, its a thriving city of 500k people and has plenty to do

So, do I seem like the type that would fit in well over there?

You should go to U of A, from what I can tell. I'm from AZ, and have many friends in both schools, and my dad works at ASU. While ASU, has a great biology program, so does U of A - and most kids that want to get into medical school go to U of A. The environment at UA is much more college-like, meaning because there are less people, you feel like you're really have a college experience. ASU has over 50,000 students, so it's much more crazy (although still good).

Althought Tucson is boring, kids at U of A have a good time and find ways to have fun. There will be partying/drinking at both campuses, and ASU has lessened its image as a party school. However, the collegiate campus experience, and perhaps even greater focus on studies, is at U of A.

Most importantly, as I've already said, all kids that want to be doctors from Arizona attend U of A. Very simply, U of A has a medical school and ASU doesn't. I don't know of any future doctors attending ASU.

I hope this has helped you, email me if you have more questions.

That's very, very helpful. Thanks to both of you. I also had questions on campus safety at both? I am leaning to U of A, but was just worried about ending up in Tucson. Is U of A honors good too? I heard Barretts was amazing and that's what tempted me.

u of a honors is better than barretts =P

But Barretts has advertised 98% med school acceptance rates.

Both honors colleges are good, my friends who are physicians in town prefer Barretts to U of A honors but both would get you where you want to go. My kids both preferred Barretts and there are many at ASU who are like you, you will find your nitch whereever you go and find like minded friends. Tucson is not boring but there is more to do for students in Phoenix if you want major concerts. The area around U of A is nice lots of good shops and restauraunts. U of A is getting pretty strict with alcohol in the dorms I am sure much stricter then ASU, but again the honors dorms will be social but not as much partying. U of A is very safe though there have been incidents, one year there was a nonstudent who ended up in a couple of the girls showers which caused a big crackdown in security and a town alert. Have you visited both?Did you reserve a dorm at Barretts because I heard they go fast.Let us know what you decide, you will do well at either!

I visited ASU many times but U of A only once. I can barely even rememeber what it was like. Are the Barrett dorms fairly decent? I plan on coming home over the weekends. I just want to go to the school that will put me in the best possible position for med school. I guess that's why this decision is so difficult.

Both schools will get you there if you are motivated. There may be more mentoring at Barrettsz(which is why their numbers look so good) but in this case I would go with your gut, where will you be happier? What feels more like home? Where do you picture yourself? The newer dorms at Barretts are supposed to be the best but they may be full. My D got a call from them about a month ago and they told her to put in for her dorm right away they may be full. We did not look at the better ones as we visited in the summer. The dorms we saw were nothing to write home about but my D is pretty picky about dorms. Sounds like you prefer U of A. You will be at the school for 4 years of your life. Go where you will be happy.
