Just some questions...

How 'free' is it? Only the tuition is payed for right? (which happens to be relatively low to begin with)

I'm worried about not having a real 'campus'.. my parents said Hunter is really just a couple of buildings, but that City does have a campus (my dad went there.. does that help with me getting in?), and I know Queens does (those are the 3 i'm looking at) Are our thoughts right?

You take all your classes with 'regular' kids at the campus, correct? Do they have honors courses at the colleges that I can take? Also there are some Macaulay courses that must be taken too?

And for the 'cultural passport'.. what have you used it on? Any specific places that you thought was great because of free/reduce fees?

I assume the $7500 is a once time thing, right? Is it guaranteed for ever Macaulay student or no.. How does one get that money? I want to do study abroad, so when I'm looking into that do I just go to an advisor and ask about the money?

Thanks! I'm really interested in Macaulay and know this is a lot of questions

1-Yes
2-Hunter has the dormitory, so that factors in more than an actual area to call a campus. City has some aspects of campus life, in terms of a grass field and occupying a larger area. However, at the end of the day, you will go home as a Macaulay student, since the dorms are not offered free of cost. On the other hand, you live at the dorms if you attend Hunter.
3-No, not all classes are regular kids. You can take all honors classes if they have them available in the class you want to take. Yes, there are 4 required seminar classes.
4-Many a museum. Have been too lazy to use it more.
5-Everyone is guaranteed it. And yes, talk to your advisor.

The only thing to add to amoney’s response is that you will need the cultural passport for your first seminar course, since there are required trips. Beyond that it is for your own edification.

My D is going to Macaulay Hunter and we’re thrilled–Quick question: What exactly does the Cultural Passport cover? The Met Museum of Art and the Natural History Museum is already free. What about the Guggenheim and the MOMA? ALso, it said it covered opera and b’way? Are these particular shows? When they say ‘sharply reduced rates,’ HOW sharply reduced? We’ve gone to many a B’way show as standbys or standing room only, and aid $20 for excellent seats. Is it cheaper than that? Trying to get an idea of budgeting. Many thanks!

WOW thats a lot of places, thanks for the link

Thanks boone–Don’t know why I couldn’t find this before…

Another question…

My brother goes to St. Johns on almost a full scholarship (he has to pay like 2,000 or so) but when he took some summer credits, he had to pay full tuition on those classes. If I am a Macaulay student, would I be able to take summer classes for free? Or would I have to pay per credit -.-

^to poster above

Yes,

On the site it says that they will cover:

Winter- 1 class (up to 4 credits)
Summer- 2 classes (up to 8 credits)

Of course you ‘could’ take more, you just have to pay for them on your own.

Hope that helps…
