I'm looking for some info from a current or recent grad of NJIT. It is one of the schools i applied to for Mech Eng. I live in South jersey so I would have to live on campus. Just curious about class size, how the campus is, type of curriculium for Eng. majors (Hands on type of work, or all classroom based... etc)

(^^ was just alluding to the fact that NJIT basketball team recently completed 0-29 season. I too read about it in sports section of my SJ paper so I guess some would find it newsworthy.)

The school's got a decent reputation. You may want to pose this question on the NJIT specific forum (under Colleges and Universities heading). I take CE courses every couple months at UMDNJ, also in Newark. That's the problem with NJIT...it's in Newark. Not the kind of place you want to hang around. On the good side you're in NYC quickly.

one of my best friends goes to NJIT, his older brother does too. he personally is not very happy there. hes not there for one of its traditional majors and only went because it was the best school that he got into. hes VERY outgoing kind of guy who loves to go to parties and just be around people. oh and he some type of a man-ho (but a lovable one).

his older brother goes there and actually really enjoys it. its in a frat and like to go into NYC (short train away) on nights that his frat doesnt have parties.

yeah newark isnt the ideal place to live at all. but as my brother (who goes to UMDNJ) insists: "its on its way up" i wouldnt go wandering around by any means. but it actually is decent around all of the schools. and the new prudential center is AMAZING. and if you wnat some of the best food in the world, go to the ironbound section (where my grandparents live, and mom grew up) and get rediculously awesome portuguese/brazilian/spanish food.

sorry i dont know more about the actual academics

Yah the NJIT board seems dead so i figured i'd post here. To be honest while it is Newark. That's not a huge worry for me. I'd most likely be spending my entire time on campus or driving home on the weekend's anyway.

I applyed there for mech engineering if that helps. It seems the science/eng related majors are the focus there.

Do you actually take classes at Rutgers Newark as well? I could have swore someone told me they had gen ed's there.

I went to NJIT the year of the name change from Newark College of Engineering. That was when Architecture was added to the curriculum. The biggest problem I had w/the school, besides the fact I was commuting, was Central High School in the middle of campus. Picture a U with CHS in the middle at the top. This was 30+ years ago so I don't know if it is still there or if the college did anything to prevent the HSers from hanging out in the student center.
