Anyone go to Preview NU?

I'm going on the monday, tuesday. I'm wondering if anyone has gone and has any advice, things I should avoid/check out?

I went on the 18th. . . was too late to register so I 'walked in' registered (didn't have to pay the $20!) hehe.. Umm.. advice..

Try to be early to about everything b/c it's crowded (the day I went was supposed to have the most people, or so they say). . . but yeah, since some people were late for lunch, they had to sit on the floor while listening to the dean's speech. There are tons of people available for you to ask questions, and definitely have questions ready. . their availability will fill up quickly.. so again, get there a bit earlier. Take their pens and notepads! (haha I'm a klepto) The cookies are good. . . hmm... I didn't stay overnight b/c I didn't really need to, and I didn't have a chance to sit in on classes the next day or go to the show at night...but if you do get a chance, definitely try to take advantage of whatever they have to offer!

Oh, and try to meet some people. You'll get a better feel of the student body and maybe it can help you decide if you want to be around those types of people or not. . .? (My friends are going. maybe you'll meet them!)

but yeah. . . definitely ask a lot of questions. The students were honest and helpful with me. Um.... dunno what else. . . have fun though! hopefully it'll be nice out so you can enjoy a stroll down the lakefront/around the pond thingy.

Safia, I'm also going Monday/Tuesday. Are you staying overnight?

Ichi, how was the weather? I heard it's supposed to snow (?!?!) or something next week...and I'm coming from CA. Great.

I'm really looking forward to my stay, actually. I want to see what the student body is like.

It's probably not gonna snow on Monday/Tuesday - it'll be partly cloudy with some showers. But please don't let the weather spoil your trip or ruin your perception of Northwestern. The campus is absolutely beautiful in late spring, summer, and early autumn. It's somewhat picturesque in the winter as well. Anyway, it might snow tomorrow though (Saturday). That's Chicago weather for ya - after living here for 17 years, you get used to it...

i went on the 19-20 and the weather was actually really warm on tuesday. i got a sunburn lol, and everyone was joking about how the weather was always like that. um, I would have talked to more people, because everyone is really nervous and closed off. Try to do as much as possible, you're only there for two days, and definitely have questions planned because I forgot to ask some I meant to. Yeah, so some of the panels in the afternoon are a little snoozish but the rest is okay. I only caught the end of the student talent show but the part i saw was pretty amazing, so definitely go to that. and try to visit a class, um, i really can't think of what else to say...

Don't worry, I definitely won't let the weather ruin my trip; I know how gorgeous the campus can be (I was there for 5 weeks last summer). I was just wondering how it was so I could sort of pack accordingly. I hope they match me up with a host who has similar academic interests. Well, I'll try and think of some good questions on the plane ride there.
Anyway, thanks to both of you!

Hmm.. keep in mind that a lot of people are studying for midterms right now.. (NU kids are always studying for midterms-- that's the quarter system for ya), but I'm sure the host will still be really cool.

My daughter went April 18-19 and had a very good time. She really liked the students she met. They were very helpful and interested in prospective students. Her only complaint was that the schedule was fairly disorganized. She attended an outstanding lecture at Medill (a jailhouse journalist who won acclaim and was eventually released -- quite a moving story) so she was able to use her time well. It really helped her to make a decision about whether to go to Medill vs. Barnard.

i went 19-20.

they didn't match me up with a host with similar interests.. in fact, i got a different host the day i got there (that's happened to me at both schools i've visited now) .. she was a theatre major and i'm premed, but she was really nice..

make sure u bring walking shoes. =)
