Anyone going to a summer music program this year?

My D was accepted to the international institute for Young Musicians this summer for their two week program. Waiting to here about scholarships funds. Should b a great experience for her. Anyone else going?

Just saw that this program in June still has openings for college & grad school musicians and composers.
“Accent12 provides college-age and graduate artists with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the study of chamber music of the past and present through performance, master classes and the opportunity to work with remarkable faculty-artists.”

For composition, Claude Baker from Indiana University is the professor.

My daughter is going to Aria for the third session.

I got accepted into the NYU Steinhardt Classical Voice Intensive! and am so excited!

My ds will be attending Indiana University’s Piano Academy.

Have any flutists gone to Jim Walker’s Beyond the Masterclass? My D was accepted for this summer and we’re wondering what ages/skill levels it’s geared towards?

My son just completed his Sophomore year. He is a very good student, 4.2 GPA, and a very nice percussionist. I know it’s already the end of June but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to which summer camps might still be available to him? He would like to continue to play in a college orchestra so anyone that would like to share their experiences with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You use the term camp—do you want some sort of college program instead?

Just wondering < though most programs are closed, there are always the occasional drop outs leaving spots open. I know this happens in VP all the time (every year D receives a call from at least one program looking for a last minute Mezzo) You might send emails to the usual suspects just on the outside chance they need a percussionist.

Just wanted to add, that most of these last minute referrals have come from programs first calling her teachers or coaches. You might have your son consult his current teacher.

Yes, sorry for the confusion, I do mean summer college program. Thank you for the advice, I will check with his teachers. I can also call. We are located in the NY area. Are there any that you can recommend?

No----- I am mostly familiar with voice programs, though a lot a voice programs need orchestras as well. BTW
it MIGHT be better if your college age son called.

The SO percussion Summer Institute at Princeton sounds wonderful, but the deadline is long passed. It would be worth a call, as suggested above, however. [S</a>? Percussion | So Percussion Summer Institute (SoSI)](http://sopercussion.com/summerinstitute)

The SO percussion Summer Institute at Princeton does look wonderful. However, besides missing the deadline it looks like you have to be 18 years old to apply. My son is only 16, just completed his sophomore year of high school. So many of these programs start so early in June and he just finished with school yesterday.

OH sorry hopeful
I thought you meant sophomore in COLLEGE. Ignore all I said! ;)

Hopeful, IU has a summer percussion academy for high school students.

My son was accepted at the Vocal Choral Intensive at Boston Conservatory. Anyone else going?

Reporting back:

DD is currently at the Bel Canto vocal program in Florence. She says it is wonderful. There are students of different abilities in the program
but says the teachers are all of very high quality. She has only been there a little over 1 week and has already learned tons
I know they accept high school up
she will be a college senior this fall
I think she would rate this program as highly recommend.

My Son is considering ISYM in Illinois, Champaign and the program at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. Can’t figure out if either one is better than the other for just the ensemble part of the Illinois program. Illinois seems to have more classes. Anyone know about the differences?

Earlier in the year I had posted asking if anyone had any feedback on the Harrower Opera Workshop held at Georgia State. No one had any feedback, and my daughter (going into her Sophomore year at CCM) attended this summer and I wanted to provide some info for others that may consider attending next year.

Harrower is held in the beginning of the summer and is 3 weeks long, so it could easily fit in with attending other programs that occur during the summer. She finished up there father’s day weekend. Initially, we looked at Harrower because we live in Atlanta, where it is held, and needed a summer program that was not going to break the bank after paying for the first year of out of state tuition at CCM.

It ended up being a fantastic program that my daughter loved attending. She met so many college students, graduate students from all over the US from many different schools. There were also people done with school as well. She stayed in the apartment style dorms, and they were great. Each person had their own room and shared a bathroom with another person, there were 4 bedrooms in each apartment. They had a food service program and my daughter said the food was outstanding.

They held auditions in February for the program and from that cast two full operas, Street Scene and Tales of Hoffman. They double cast the main parts in each one. They also cast people into individual opera scenes that were not cast in the two operas so everyone was performing. From March until the program took place, my daughter got the experience of learning the score from the Opera in which she was cast. There were 2 groups, the Young Artist group that were cast in the operas and a Studio Program for those who were looking to learn more and understudy the main roles. You can google Harrower Opera Workshop and get an idea of the groups. My daughter was cast in one of the main roles in one of the Operas.

They had classes each day in addition to rehearsals for the operas and scenes. Classes included acting, coachings, movement, Stage Combat, and others I just can’t think of right now. It was crazy busy just as all summer programs are, but they had a blast. They held a gala fund raiser the 2nd week of the program with Frederica Von Stade, their guest artist who worked with the attendees in master classes for several days. Select students in the program were invited to perform in the gala with Frederica Von Stade which was held at a lovely venue.

The cost for the program was incredibly affordable, my daughter did stay in the dorms even though we live in Atlanta. If she had not stayed in the dorms, it is likely she would not have gotten to know everyone as well as she did, and they just had a ball there as you can imagine.

The program was a fantastic experience for my daughter, and she will definitely consider the program again for next year.

Thanks so much for that great update. I work with vocal students here in South Carolina so it is good to hear that we have a quality summer program nearby. I had visited the campus because of Classical Singer auditions and was aware of their summer program.
