Anyone going to Albany College of Pharmacy?

The title explains it all :) if you do go please either post here or message me?

thanks!

oh and please include your GPA/SAT and how much financial aid you got, thanks! :)

anyone ...?

My dad went there. It's a great school if you definately know that you want to be a pharmacist.

The career opportunity available to you by going there is really great, there is a real shortage of pharmacists, and depending on where you live you can make anywhere between 80 and 130 k starting.

However, it's not for everyone, long hours (I remember waiting up as a kid for my dad to come home late at night when he had to work overtime), can be really tedious...and isn't something I personally wanted to do (I'm going to try for med school, I think I'd like dealing with patients better than filling their perscriptions...not that there's anything bad about the later, just not my thing).

ACP is great, but stay focused on your classes. They are designed to weed people out, but not as bad as Buffalo. I hear it's not as intense as it used to be...and you should be fine. The key to doing well, is you have to really love the prospect of being a pharmacist...(I know a couple people who went and weren't really sure and ended up transfering out).

My dad was an above average student...but not stellar, I believe he was never a good english student and I think he ended up failing french. But things were totally different when he applied, I'm sure.

Hope I helped. I don't think was exactly what you were looking for, but you probably won't get too many people here. it's kind of a smaller school.

i know someone going there next year. i don't know any of her stats or financial situation, but she is really smart and awesome.

thanks StPlayrXtreme! :) all the info was very helpful :)

emizzly, do you think you could find out? please :)

Hi, I was accepted to ACP for this fall semester as a pharm D major.
My sat score was 1930 and my GPA was 4.0.

haksun87, did you do early decision? and how much scholarship money did you get? and financial aid? Thank you guys so much! :)

I'm interested too! :)

Anyone else? I'm just kinda bumping this up so people can see it :)

I just wanted to tell you... I live in Albany like 5 minutes from ACP, so if you have any questions about the school or Albany area let me know =)

oh thank you! =)

Um... you haven't seen the housing by any chance have you? like the inside hehe

and um, how is albany? like is it really city-like?

bumping! =)

Hey, I'm a student at albany college of pharmacy (going into 2nd year). Honestly, its a great school. You just gotta make sure you focus on your classes and not fall behind because it could be hard to catch up when exams roll around.

Residence is average. Notre Dame offers you suites where you share an apartment with other people, however, u do get your own room.

In south hall, you'll share your apartment with 2-3 other people.

The campus is beautiful and even though ACP doesnt have a great library, you have access to the library at Albany Law which is great.

You get a sick laptop when you come to the school which is GREAT :) Technical support included for your entire time there. (free upgrades to VISTA next year YAY).

Profs are all easily accessible which is VERY important because you can get help at anytime.

Albany itself is a very small city (i'm from toronto, canada, so it jsut doesnt compare lol) but its what you make of it, plenty of frat parties, lots of bars around and night clubs. I never took the transit system cuz i got my own car here but i heard its allright.

If you have more questions, just ask me and i'll try to answer as many questions as you have.

If u do come, make sure u dont screw up your first semster, because if u do, you're out right away :)

Oh wow! thank you so much! =D

well... what was your GPA/SAT when you applied? and how much scholarship $ did you get?

I think I'm going to get accepted.. I'm visiting next month and I'm going to ED so yeah =)

I'm just really concerned about the money that's all, there IS this one person on CC that's only paying 9k a year cause of all the scholarships she got ...

Oh and when you apply to ACP do you get considered for scholarships from Union College?

Thank you SOOO much! :D

I'm from Canada, so i'm not elegible for any scholarships :( even though i'm on dean's list.

but i can ask around for you. i know a bunch of people who received scholarships. Also i'm pretty sure you might have to apply seprately for the scholarships. Like I said earlier, call them and they'll tell you everything. They're very helpful to all their students.

I finished one year at university of toronto and my gpa there was a 3.7, so it was good and my high school grades were all 90s. I never wrote the SAT so i have no idea what kind of requirement they would have.

And another thing, in the off-chance that you dont get in, dont give up, go down there and talk to them and they might reverse their decision and actually let you in.

Oh yeah :( sorry I kinda overlooked the fact that you're not from the US, sorry! =(

I'll try to call them tomorrow :) I just get REALLY tongue-tied when talking to people of higher status haha, so I'm gonna sound like an idiot haha

If you could ask around for me that would be Great! :) Thanks sooo much :D

I'm not so sure I wanna ask ACP how much scholarship money get give out ... most colleges would just say "well I don't have the numbers to give out to you right now" haha

nah, u shouldnt worry about it...they're all pretty nice and they'll try to help you as much as they can. haha i knew i was calling them a lot last summer when i was deciding whether to transfer there or not.

haha thanks :) I'll definitely try :)

so how are the South Hall dorms? I emailed them the other day and they replied saying that the first-years are dorming there so I'm curious :)

You'll be sharing the room with 1-2 other students. Each room gets its own washroom (so you wont have to share with 12 other people like in Notre Dame). You dont get a kitchen or anything that you can use to prepare your own meals so a good meal plan is important. We're getting a new cafeteria next year so the food should be significantly better (it was terrible last year lol) Its pretty close to the classes buildings (4 minute walk MAXIMUM) Its right across the soccer field/track.

Hmm what else, there's a common room with tvs and a pool table and such.

Make friends with your RAs for these nights that you come back drunk lol.

Go to the passport program presentations so that you can move into CollegeSuites in your 2nd year. THey have a point system and the more pionts you have the more choices you have as to where to stay the next year.

College Suites is WAY better than either notreDame or South Hall. I'm staying in a 2 bedroom suite this upcomming semester and its basically like your own apartment.

Hmmm...If you have anything else you're wondering about, just ask me

Question about ACP - are classes very hard - I heard there is a good percentage of students who fail out.

Are people very competitive? As in they would give you bad notes or something to jinx you?

Thanks,
Mike
