I was wondering if there's anyone else going under business informatics or computer science majors this fall. I really want to connect with some future engineering students, any engineering students not just bus info or comp sci students! I'm actually really kind of nervous for this fall but definitely excited. :)

I am going into materials engineering, but I would like to switch to Chem. E or computer eng./science. Those have better job opportunities. If you know anything about computer science or comp. e, please inform me so I can make a educated transition.

Well I heard comp sci majors have lots of job opportunities, many are usually able to secure jobs even before graduation. I’ve never had any sort of programming experience, but my parents ultimately influenced my decision because they are comp. engineers as well. Also, comp. sci is very flexible, you can do any sort of job that you want to do, not just programming. So you aren’t limited which isn’t the case for many other majors.

I’m attending the Engineering School as well :D. Although I have no idea if I actually want to pursue a field in engineering despite my declared major (biomedical engineering). I might want to transfer to business though. Also, I’m going to be kind of alone I guess at UCR since I don’t know anyone else from my school who is going there.

Although, I’m still waiting on hearing back from UCI with my appeal. But if I see you there, it’ll be cool. The engineering facility got $12million from a donor so we’ll have more access to resources compared to other schools within UCR :)

If you are on the fence about if you want to do engineering, then its not for you. I just dont think you would have the perseverance and drive in the end. you have to love what you’re learning and not just doing it for a paycheck.

@kevin: Materials engineering/ materials science is definitely on the rise. Its a specialty engineering but its one that will be valuable in years to come. composites will be a huge field and you will have a unique set of skills that not many people have.
