Anyone going to LU?

wooohooo i got an email today telling me my lawrence email address and that my password should be coming soon so i went and checked lawrence's site and it said

"How do I get my network-e-mail password or my Voyager pin?
Account information is mailed to new students in the summer housing letter. It is printed on a sheet entitled "Student Computer Account Information". This is sent in early July. The network-e-mail password is separate and different from the Voyager pin. If you misplace your letter account information can be obtained from ITS Helpdesk, located in room 201 of the library."

so we should be getting housing stuff in early july

Cool. I got my email today too but they screwed up my new address somehow. My name@ lawren and then I got another email that said "oops - LU email address" or something, but it was blank... Hmm. I have gotten two blank emails from LU recently. The other one was from the financial aid office. Hmm. Maybe I should email them or call. So, do you guys know what classes you are going to take next year? Oh Kassos, I can IM you tomorrow.

however if i can test out of biology, which i think i can, i will probably take another government class or an upper level bio class or maybe an advanced chem

Haha. I love how all of your classes are the last classes I would ever take. Mostly because I am horrible at (and don't really like) math and science.

Music, languages, and literature are what I am into, history is nice too

woohoo got my residential info in the mail today! ormsby 2nd floor.. quite exciting.

Ahhhh I want my residential info!!!!!!!!

I want mine!!! I like Ormsby, that and Kohler would be my first choice! Where are you from again, because I am still waiting to hear in ME. Still waiting to hear about my AP scores too, maybe tomorrow.

So next year all I will be able to take is music theory and other music stuff (keyboard skills, voice lessons, and ensemble) and freshman studies, which bums me out because I was also planning on taking History, Intro to Linguistics, Spanish lit, and Italian 1. So much for that. Well, I might be able to fit in a Spanish class term 3 because Freshman studies ends. I hope I can because I can't lose my Spanish skills next year since I will either major or minor in it. Oh well.

At least after Freshman year most of the ultra time consuming music reqs will be done, so I can take some other classes, and more fun (for me anyway) music classes (history, lessons, ensembles, physics of music, etc.)

i'm in wisconsin :) do you know anything about music lessons for non-music majors? because i would like to learn piano or guitar but i'm not sure if i can

Sweet. I got my dorm info., I am in my 5th choice dorm "Trever" (its far from the con. and apparently a party hall), but I def. won't lose my Spanish even if all I am able to take next year is music stuff because my roommate is an international student from Mexico! Nice! Podre hablar en espanol! Ole!

Check out the online course sched., I know there are private lessons for 2nd instrument, and non-majors.

I am in a good mood. Finally got some of the mail I was waiting for. Still waiting for my AP scores though...(Irritated.)

Great day for me!

I got into my first choice dorm (Sage).

I got my AP scores (5 on AB Calc and 5 on Euro).

If only the stupid redirect on Lawrence's webmail would work.

hhahaha trevor! aw that sucks aw be careful there!

Hey. Be nice! Haha. I think I will be fine. It doesn't really matter where I am, I can make whatever I want out of my college ed. Anyway, I read back through the resid. hall stuff, and I remembered that the only reason I didn't like Trever was because it is far from the con. I mixed it up with Plantz which I am pretty sure has a rep. as the "party" dorm. Trever actually sounds like a really nice, friendly community. Open doors, lots of group study sessions. It sounds like I am going to have a great time. And, I like to think things happen for a reason! Plus, I would have a diff. roommate if I was in any of the other halls. Kassos, what dorm are you in? Or have you heard yet?

hey im a sophomore at LU. just wanted to say HI to all...and a warm welcome to your new home for the next four years. you can also ask me anything about LU except about the Con.

what dorm are you in?

Any teachers/classes you would recommend (or recommend staying away from)?

I'd also like to hear what you think about the different dorms at Lawrence.

i lived in Plantz my fresh-year and i will be living in Colman this year.
Plantz is a nice dorm. Much better than trevor and sage in my opinion. its a great dorm for "connies" because the majority of the population in Plantz are music majors. i decided to switch from plantz to colman because
1) i wanted someplace close to a diner. it was either kohler or colman. i ultimately chose colman because the diner is located in the first floor, so i can just go downstairs in the morning with my shorts and eat breakfast.
2) i wanted someplace closer to Briggs and Science Hall. (im a biochem major) even 2 meters makes a big difference during winter.
3) someplace quiet: music majors can be pretty annoying during weekends with all the practicing and singing.

this is the courses i took this year.
Freshman Studies I
Calc I
Econ Micro

Freshman Studies II
Calc II
Cultural Anthropology

Econ Development
Macro Theory
Calc III

having survived freshman year i can tell you that lawrence is no joke.
bear in mind that you will have to fight for your A-. (not an A...i seriously mean A-)
i took calc classes with Prof. Parks (term I), and Prof. Hunsicker (II & III)

they are all good professors but ive heard that Prof. Poauciau is the best. and even though people suffer from 30-50 question homework problem set and a test average that is usually around 55%. people usually tell me that that is the best math class they have ever taken.
i was going to be an econ major but i decided to change because i hated upper level econ and the department is not so...lets just say...that it lacks the foundation.

freshman studies shouldnt be a problem to anybody who graduated from a highschool in the US. I, on the other hand, am an international student....and even though i attended an international school, i still had some nights where i spent the night writing that final draft. like i said before freshman studies is not a problem and it should be fun by 2nd term. (just pray you dont get a english or a history professor as your freshman studies prof.) im sure you will go through countless drafts just to get a B+

i guess all dorms are different to suit the diversity of lawrence. i dislike trevor because its so so so far away from everything. i think i went there twice this year...i didnt even know a dorm existed in that area until about thanksgiving.
kohler is nice. it has its own sink. (i think hiett, colman, and kohler are the only dorms that has its own sink in each room) anyways...kohler is nice and quiet. the furniture there kinda sucks...but it has a great view if you live in the 7th floor. if you like peace and quiet then kohler is the place to be.
sage is okay. alot of the football and b-ball, and hockey players live in that dorm. its known as a party dorm along with Trevor. (dont get me wrong about people who play sports...my roommate this year who is in both basketball and football team got along fine.) i think sage is okay because its so dark in there...it feels like a dungeon to me. and it used to be a smoke-allowed residence about 3 years ago...but i can still smell smoke whenever i enter that dorm.
hiett is the best, i know because my girlfriend lived there...and seriously i dont know if you guys have visited lawrence...but i go to sleep everynight hoping lawrence would turn all dorms like hiett. its air-conditioned, has its own individual bathrooms, rooms sizes are so much bigger, has a public kitchen in each floor (unlike other dorms where the kitchem is located in the basement.)

wow...i wrote so much. i hope this helped. i tried to go into depth instead of breadth...but i guess it didnt come out like that. please dont hesitate to ask me any other questions.

I'm slightly interested in economics. Could you go into more detail about why you didn't like the department?

in my opinion, the strength of a department is determined by its professors and how well they teach (i guess its common sense). The 4 main professors: Prof. Nagase, Prof. Higgins, Prof. Finkler, and Prof. Alger really know what they are talking about. I really do. So far I have taken classes with al of them except Prof. Alger. However, i didnt like the econ development because the professors put you to sleep. Most were dry lecturers and they didnt motivate me to try harder. I guess it partially my fault as well, but i recommend taking a class with Higgins for your intro class and see how you like it. There is without doubt that Prof Higgins is the best prof, just because he knows what he's talking about and he has a very commanding voice that is impossible to fall asleep.

how is ormsby? and are what do most of the students think about athletics at lawrence?

I personally dont like Ormsby. However, alot of my friends like that dorm and I was surprised to see that Ormsby was the first dorm to get filled up for room selection. I cant describe Orsmby. It has high ceilings but its also kind of dark and humid. Its also one of the few dorms which has its own walk-in closets. (i think)

im not that interested in sports but im know that lawrence has been kicking ___ in basketball. I think we got first place again this year. Football team is a joke...i think they had like 2 wins and 35 losses. They have been this record for about 12 seasons. However, I think this will change because the head coach "retired" and a new coach from St. Norbert arrived. Ive heard that the soccer team and softball team arent bad either. I dont know their exact stats but I remember hearing something about the softball team beating the best team in the US (or something like that...not too sure) I guess the rest (swimming, fencing, rowing, hockey) are just okay.
