Hi, My daughter is admitted to NU's engineering school (very excited). She has several choices and is now down to 2. While she is still making her final decision, I thought I'd reach out to see if there are other students or parents in the vicinity who are admited and have accepted NU's engineering? FYI, we live in the northern suburbs.

I also live on the North Shore and am leaning toward Northwestern over a couple of comparable engineering programs (i.e. Cornell). I have been waitlisted at my top choice, but in the likely event that it doesn’t pan out there is a very good chance that I will be attending NU next year.

Congrats Iamonahunt ! What is your top choice (if I may ask)? My D: is also considering U of M AA.

Greetings - We are from the NW suburbs, out by Woodfield, and my D faced that choice back in 2004. She was admitted to NU, Purdue, Rose Hullman,Iowa State, and UIUC, and then narrowed the choice down to UIUC and NU.

She set up an appointment to talk to someone at NU engineering that was in her discipline, that did undergrad at UIUC, and Grad work at NU. It was actually just the luck of the draw that the Prof went to UIUC - the purpose of the appointment was to talk to someone in the Dept about NU.

Needless to say, the Prof was very helpful, and discussed NU vs. UIUC. My D decided the smaller class sizes, and smaller campus would be a better fit for her, and since every happy story should have a happy ending, I ran into that Prof at my D’s graduation and thanked him for the extra direction!

So, check out the NU web pages, call couple of Prof’s and set something up!

(That same visit BTW worked to also help her select her dorm for the next 4 years.)

Good luck, PM me if you need to.

Go cats!

Thanks nugraddad for sharing your experience. We are going to be speaking with one of the faculty members. My D is also going to be at WildcatDays preview event next week. I will take you up on the offer and speak live, if possible, should we have more questions.

I’m attending NU this fall as an industrial engineering major and I live around Elgin area. I think I’ll be attending one of those Wildcat Welcome days, though I’m not sure yet. Anyway, if your D ends up going to Northwestern, I’m sure she’ll be happy with the decision.

To answer your question, I applied for ChemE. I found out today that I have been accepted into ISP, so I need to think pretty hard about that as well.

I’m a female potential BME major from a Chicago suburb.
