Anyone going to U of Cincinnati - Connections Dual Admission Prog (BS/MD) interview?

It looks like the OOS applicants are outnumbered in admission. They say that they have invited only 24 applicants. How many get chosen? Please pm me. .

what state are you from and what are your stats (anyone who received an interview call)? I think they always had 24.

Did anyone get the interview offered via MedOneStop as following

Interview Offered
After completing an initial review of your application, the Admissions Committee would like to offer you an on-campus interview. We will contact you via email with more information and to arrange your campus visit. Dated Feb/22/11.

Inguye02 did your child make top 30 for medstart at Wayne?

ilovelost,

To save money, my son did not attend the Scholar day on Feb/12/2011 and did not want to proceed with the phone interview until I bugged him. He received the email for phone interview on Jan/31 and did not email them back until Feb/14. They grilled him because of his age, 16y/o. Finally, he did not make the final 30 finalist by email today. But he received the email from U of Cincinnati today.

Did you get the invitation from U of Toledo and Wayne State?

Good Luck!

Hi Inguye02,

I did not attend the Scholars day at UC. I am not sure what kind of schoalrship that I got from UC. Also, the cost is so high. Being OOS, the chances of getting into Connection program is rather minimum. I am thinking of skipping the interview. Let me know

mcotocjc,

My son skipped the Scholar Day too because it seems very hard to get Presidential awards (It seems like 1 student/department and from Ohio). But he will get Excellence award. He will not sure that he wants to go for the interview either because of the cost the airfares (we’re from CA).

Good luck to you!

So let me understand. I assume you both researched the program and knew that it was a requirement to attend the interview. I would expect you evaluated the costs (travel etc.) and benefits of attending the interview (you both seem intelligent based on your previous posts) before applying. Now having been offered an interview you are going to turn it down because of the travel costs. In my opinion, totally inconsiderate. If a school like Cincinnati could practice common sense they should limit scholarships and programs like the BS/MD to a radius from the school based on historical data of actual acceptances. To offer a program such as the BS/MD program to an OOS from California is ludicrous and a slap in the face to in state students.

Nobody is looking to be judged here. Waste of time. Everybody is doing what is reasonable under circustances. This includes families and organizations. They do not need to be approved by somebody else. Colleges are choosing the best candidates. They always invite more than they need in case some have reasons to decline invitations. It is built in the system, there is no reason to be frustrated over somebody else’s personal decisions. Here, you have another target to attack, which is fine with me.

I think it is reasonable to fly home on the freeway at 100 MPH because there is a show on TV I want to watch. Don’t judge me or flip me off when I cut you off because of my “personal decision”, I think it is quite reasonable under the circumstances.

But you won’t see that as a personal decision, there are other people affected. Others are affected here also. The next people on the list may have been very qualified and had talents that didn’t show on paper that would be a huge benefit to the program. They may have had more qualifications that didn’t fit on the form. But, they didn’t even get a chance to be invited to the interview to fully represent themselves.

You say they invite more in case someone doesn’t show. But the website makes it clear that interviewing is mandatory. I think they choose the number they do so they have a good pool of interviewees from which to decide. That’s a reasonable statement isn’t it ? So I guess I’ll get no arguement from you. This isn’t like applying to college where a person is placed on a waitlist. This is one list, no second chances.

Personal decision ? No it wasn’t. It took away the ability for candidates to compete on a level playing field for an opportunity; and the people who took away that opportunity aren’t even going to be part of the process. Don’t say that they were likely not going to be winners because they didn’t rank in the top 24, if the deciding factor for extending an offer is based only on their position in the list, then why even interview ? Actually the interview is a very important part of the decision, and at least 2 candidates won’t get their chance to prove themself. Frustrating, you bet. Good kids could have been passed over for someones bragging rights.

Any recommended airports and hotels near U of Cincinnati?

^ lol. inguye dont let others influence tough decisions that you need to make. I understand that this is hard. Jj shouldnt pick on you for that. You already have toledo. He shouldnt bug you. Im ISS.

Yes, inguye02, make decisions that are best for your family, do not listen to somebody with huge elbows.
I believe that there is airport in Cinci. I am not sure, never used it, it is only 3 hrs to drive for us. BTW my D. is finishing UG part in DAP, if you have any questions, you can PM. However, she went to interview 4 years ago and it could have changed since. Program used to have 5 UG schools and now it is only Cinci. Best wishes in decision and interview if you decided to attend.
