<p>I am considering getting a legal name change and i will be a freshman at college in fall, and i was wondering would this affect anything and if anyone has been through the process of a legal name change.</p>

<p>I did.
I got it done right after my 18th birthday in the middle of summer, and the only thing that they (the college) screwed up on was that at my orientation, none of my files had been switched over to my new last name. All I had to do was bring them the signed copy of the court document that the judge signed, and all was taken care of before anyone knew anything. At my other colleges (I've since transferred), everything is absolutely fine. I don't even have to show them any documentation that I've changed my name. I just go by what I go by.</p>
