Anyone got accepted at Berkeley for statistics/ math major?

some of ma international student frens got rejected with 3.8 California CC GPA by UCB and UCLA for statistics major....they are saying they should have applied as math major.....

..since we see some int. students with 3.7 getting accepted for math major,,

Anyone got accepted at berkeley for statistic or math..
share your gpa and info~

i got in as a math major. 4.0 all prereqs completed. i will attend ucla.

Accepted: UCLA UCSD UC Berkeley
Rejected: none
Pending: none
GPA: 3.83 (Last 32 units 4.0)
Units: i forget
Major: Applied Math (Berkeley), Math/Econ(UCLA and UCSD)
will attend: UC Berkeley

statistics is in the same department as math for uc berkeley so it wouldn’t have made a difference since they admit by department.

then you must have had a 3.57 before finishing your last 32 units.

Actually, it was a 3.62

yeah i don’t know how you think you can determine his GPA prior unless you knew how many units he had… math major?

3.83 = ((324)+(kx))/(32+x) or -5.44 = (k-3.83)x

where x = # of units previously attempted
and k = GPA of units

so… by my calculation you had 26 units completed, prior to your 32 unit run

bored… obviously … Econ major

i took a couple classes P/NP which is why my total unit counted toward my gpa is only 58.

oh i had assumed you were not counting your classes this semester. Either way, i was just practicing my “equation creation” skills, instead of studying for my business law final in the morning

well i calculated the average completed units a math major has that is admitted to berk, minus the average units a person takes in their last semester and got 53 semester units. with my calculation he would have had 21 units completed before the 4.0 streak which would give him a 3.57 before the 32 units. as you can see my answer was more of an educated assumption.

oh yeah and that too haha

i got in from uc with a 3.43. lol

my roommate chinese-international student

Accepted: UCLA, UCSD
Rejected: UCB
Pending:
GPA: 4.0
Units: 100
Major: Statistics
Will attend: UCLA

is that 100 uc units or ccc units?

Accepted: UCLA, UC Berkeley
Rejected: Got in everywhere
Pending: None
GPA: 3.5
Units: 74
Major: Math/Econ (UCLA), Statistics (UC Berkeley)
Will attend: Not sure yet.

UCLA admit Math Econ and UCB econ Major.
Idk which one, ill probably do a double major in applied math as well @ UCB.
But the Math Econ major @ UCLA is pretty promising.
This is how i calculate my GPA.
n(A)+n(B)+n(C)/x * 4.
Where x = number of Units
n(c) = Number of Units*Grade point for that grade.

What exactly about Math/Econ makes you feel that it’s promising?

Bamp. Please state Ecs as well.

bamp
I’m applying for fall 2010.

bamp? vamp? twilight? bump.

@Tiberus,

Math/Econ+a couple other non-required courses is excellent for anyone hoping to move into a graduate study of economics, development economics, or a field in which there are not yet applicable pre-defined models.
