what the title says…

Brown Admission: Facts & Figures

Based on the class rank statistics, my guess would be "yes, but not a lot".

most certainly, in a competitive school with a rigorous program, less that that can still be stellar

i bet if a 3.8 is top 10 or 5 % at a school then most certainly

at my school that would have been like top 50%

my UW is 3.8ish..my unweighted is over 5...soo basically question is, whether 3.8UW is bad for a Brown applicant

sorry..i meant 3.8ishUW and 5ishW

It's all relative. If your rank is good, as others mentioned, you should be fine.

i got in with a 3.69

andhangmyzen: did you have like really good SAT scores to help out a lot since your GPA is lower than the average?

Andhangmyzen give us all ur secrets of awesomeness!

ooh, this is so me!

iwannagotobrown, I love brown too and really want to go but I don't want to be too optimistic. My best advice is to not slack off and try your best. at everything.
good luck when you apply next year though :)

Thanks Mandolive! good luck to you too and remember my username so u can message me when u get in :)

yeah its all relative for my school 3.65+ is top 5 percent unweighted

i dont even think i was in the top 10% of my graduating class. got good test scores tho, 1600 on math and cr.

i was just honest on my app, told them i had a passion for certain things, could care less about numbers and grades, and i wrote a good, very risque/creative essay.

just being honest about urself i feel helps a lot. eventually the right fit colleges pick you, and i fit in perfectly at brown.

sounds a lot like me - risky essays but interesting reads. My ECs dont show my biggest passions (filmmaking) but my essays did, somewhat. Thanks andhangmyzen for a little confidence boost in my app :)

I was offered admission a few semesters ago as a transfer.
My high school GPA was a very stellar 2.4, and my college GPA was 3.9, one year in from a state school.
I couldn't afford tuition, though.

wow did you have a special hook or anything?

Not really.
I've studied abroad, fluent in four languages, intern at a Wall St. IT firm, and have a couple below par ECs.
I don't think that's enough to warrant admission to Brown, though. I just figured I got lucky.

ETA: I did also have recommendations from the Army Deputy Director, one congress member, and the former Mayor of where I live. But as I said, I don't think those are weighted enough to count as substantial hooks.
