I feel like people with around 1100-1190 SAT (CR+ M) despite their GPA are not going to hear until later. All my friends and people I heard who applied earlier got theirs so quickly and they got around 1200 CR+M SAT. They are probably taking in people with high SATs and GPA first and then decide on the remaining people.

I have a 1200 CR + M score but i still haven’t heard anything.
On a side note, my school’s college advisor was telling us that we should send mid year reports to schools we are still waiting for. Stony brook didnt ask for my mid year report so im not sure what to do. If someone can help me out here i would appreciate it

I sent in mine but they never asked either. When did you send in the application though?

i sent it in mid december and it was downloaded december 27

Hmm maybe they are being random then. I don’t get it, what helps you get in faster? I heard someone applying in mid January and got accepted like a week later.

It seems like they are accepting the people with the highest SATs first. My daughter got her notification in about a week (She applied in January), and she had a 1360 CR and Math. My thought is that SAT score, unlike GPA, doesn’t require looking at stuff like strength of schedule, difficulty of the school, or reading essays, activities, etc. I’m sure they’ll eventually take the people with strengths in those areas, but they just flat-out take the people with the high SATs first.

Alex23, I’m going to have to disagree with you! I haven’t gotten accepted yet and unless you think that 2330 / 1540 CR+M score isn’t high, then… :)

When did you complete your app?^^

Mid to late December!

i got accepted around january 10th

Applied in October. Still waiting.

Weird, Katzly. She got accepted in about a week, when she only applied in January. The only reason I could think of was the SAT because her grades were in the middle (3.65 weighted, 3.1 uw) and, though her activities were good, it didn’t even seem like enough time to read her resume or essay. She does come from a competitive high school, but in Florida, so I doubted they’d even know about it. Are your grades low?

NVM. I just found your grades on another thread. They seem similar to my daughter’s, but hers showed an upward trend with her highest average junior year, a 4.0. Her not-so-great average was the result of two C’s early on, in chemistry and geometry (both honors, though). Guess they read more carefully than I thought.

Accepted! Just got the notification today.
Applied in January.
GPA 3.8 W
SAT 1750

I received an acceptance to Stony Brook a couple weeks ago in February and an acceptance last weekend to Binghamton.

They should just send out decisions for people who applied earlier since it’s rolling.

I’m a current junior and stony brook is my dream school do you guys think I can get in?
85-90 UW
1770 SAT
Good recs.
Essays will be mediocre
3 years V tennis among a few other decent EC’s

Alex23 and katzly:

My guidance counselor called the school last month to find out if I go accepted or not. I had applied late November and other people in my school who had applied later than I had were already getting accepted, so I was confused. The person we called said that they are using SAT scores & GPA’s as determining factors. I had just got accepted today, probably because I didn’t have great SAT scores, but a high GPA.

I knew it! That’s what I thought all along that they are using SAT and GPA as major factors for acceptance since there’s many people applying anyway. I have a feeling that I got in but i’m not going to find out until I get that letter. Denials come by emails according to people. My SATs are not that great either but great GPA. How did you find out@meeow? you called or you got the letter?

Still waiting on a response but with a:

GPA: 88.2670
Weighted GPA: 92.6650

SAT: 730 Math, 580 CR, 620 Writing
ACT: 30 Composite, Eng: 27, Math: 28, Reading: 31, Science 32, Combined Eng/Wr 26

Would you say I have much to worry about?

hello, i applied regular decision to stony brook in october.

uw gpa 88
sat 1690/2400, 1120/1600

four seasons varsity sports, 4 clubs, two jobs, my essay was okay i’m not exactly sure how great/bad it was. Stony Brook is basically my top choice so I am really hoping i get accepted. I had two great recs as well. I come from a very competitive high school.

Please be honest and let me know what you think.
