I only have UCSB out of all the schools I have been accepted too. I am getting around $20,042 in aid and I am eligible for 2,100 in work study, so $22,142 in free money. The estimated cost is around $29,714 , so I would have to come up with $7,572. I want to go here, but I am waiting for UCD and UCLA. How about you guys?

i cant see my award for some reason. when i click on the financial aid thing it says your fafsa for 2012-2013 was processed. i never turned in my fafsa for last year let alone mention ucsb on it. help?

@jshelterz what is your efc?

@ sumbum My dad lost his job shortly after I got into CC so the household income dropped down significantly. EFC is still currently at 0.

@ Umairk27 Weird. Have you done the Fafsa for 2013-2014?

@jshelterz I’m in a similar situation. I don’t have an official efc yet (haven’t done taxes yet -__- ), but it should be 0 or close to 0. Are you gonna get loans? Did you receive any scholarships?

:( have to take out a significant amount for loans. Didn’t receive any scholarships from UCSB.

@sumbum No just grants, from California, UCSB, and of course federal pell grant. Sadly, I might have to take out loans, but it isn’t as much as I would have to take out if my dad was making his normal income lol. I wish I did get at least one scholarships though.

@HopingToXfer Are you still thinking about going there?

@jshelterz my unofficial grants and scholarships come to 17,422 it says:
Possible Cal Grant Eligibility - 12192
Federal Pell Grant - 2995
UCSB Grant - 2235

Does that mean I’m supposed to get 17,4222 a year in free money?

Hey btw is yours saying that you are living off campus? I just checked and I put on campus living on my fafsa yet its putting my total cost as if I’m living off campus

Not too sure. Waiting on UCLA

Do you guys remember when we all first applied to the UC’s and we had to check off like 16 scholarships to apply to?? Well, do we even get any of those?

@mrandall

When I switched my FAFSA from off-campus to on-campus, my Pell award only increased by 95$. Perhaps you didn’t notice the difference?

@mrandall Yes. That amount will be going to tuition etc. Just checked and they have an estimated cost for off campus too. I checked on campus on fafsa too. Since it’s not official maybe once we SIR they will update that.

@sumbum Go to View your financial aid shopping sheet by the EFC information on the Unofficial award letter, and it will tell you how many scholarships you can use. I am can’t use nada :(. This isn’t set in stone since it’s official so maybe we can get more lol.

@HopingToXfer Me too, I am not going to get my hopes up too high. I just applied there for the hell of it. I’d be amazed if I got in because my prereqs suck.

I am eligible for $18764 and $2100 in work study $8850 in loans. The official award is usually more or less?

Ok don’t let the unofficial crap fool you. It told me I was eligible for a grant and blah blah turns out it ended up being 5k in work study like 14-15k in loans if I got the parent plus but couldn’t because my mom filed for bankruptcy and only 6500 in grant money. Definitely not enough money. Those things are not accurate. Apply to as many scholarships as possible!!!

@ac40507 Do you have any tips for applying for scholarships? I have applied to over a dozen and I haven’t won anything. I haven’t been applying to any that require letters of recommendation, though.

@ac40507,

Could you please elaborate on what grant(s) you were eligible for? Was it something like Cal Grant A or so? This is very unnerving to hear because I was quite ecstatic at the amount that Cal Grant A which the unofficial financial aid award letter says I’m eligible for. I checked the Cal Grant website and it seems the requirements are fairly lax as long as you applied for Cal Grants out of high school senior year. I’ll check my Cal Grant status on their website now to make sure.
