Anyone gotten in yet? And does state have any leniency in hc selection?

Im just wondering if anyone has gotten accepted into michigan state yet? I thought they usually start accepting people around this time of year? Also, im at the 7% mark in my class, but I go to a very competitive high school in michigan, and I got a 34 on my ACT, way above the 30 needed for hc. Is there any chance they might select me for honors college? Im thinkin of going into chemical engineering

There is a little leeway. I think if you’re borderline, you have to do some essays or something and they’ll evaluate you that way. I’d say that you’ll probably get in after review, but don’t quote me :).

I think it outlines the process (and provides contact info) here: [Honors College Admission](http://honorscollege.msu.edu/admissions/index.html)

Aveesh,

My daughter applied very early September and we’ve been waiting ever so patiently as well! I’ve been doing some web searching and found a tweet at msu_admissions that said “We’ll start making decisions on applications within the next week!” that was dated 10-10-12.

Good luck! :)

professionalmom, thats good to hear. I sent my application in on August 21st, and have been waiting since too. Hope to hear from them this week then :)

I must have missed that tweet from them, thanks for posting it here!

Go Check, I just was accepted! Good luck to everyone!

Dylan - congratulations and welcome to the Spartan family!

FYI - acceptance letters just started going out this week.

Dylan, when did you send in your application?

I just checked mine and the status was changed to this:

Your application is currently under consideration with your reviewing counselor. You will receive an initial decision on your application for admission within 12 weeks. Your patience during the review process is greatly appreciated.

I sent my application in 9/25. Everything else was sent in before hand.

Hey Dylan if you don’t mind sharing, can you post your stats(GPA/test scores/etc)?

Act-28
3.26 uw 3.7 w
In the Stem program mostly AP and honors

I was accepted a couple days ago! :)

Do you know when we learn about if we’re in the Honors College and when the ADS competition is? I think I would qualify for both.

Never mind: On the website, MSU apparently sends the notification 4 to 6 weeks after admissions. There is no extra application but you may have to write an essay if you want to be considered for it but were not admitted automatically.

Aveesh, in regards to your question: “Students who have outstanding records and are close to the criteria also will receive a comprehensive individualized evaluation and may be invited based on all of the characteristics listed above.”

Something wrong is happening with this website. My post should be lower and the time is incorrect.

I have no idea. Did you have to apply to the HC?

Hmm…
I has 3.63 UW, 4.22 W GPA and 34 ACT…
I think I did a pretty suckish essay…
Is that gonna hurt me in my chances to get in?
I guess I took the school too much for granted

I submitted my app 8/9

With such a high act I think your in. Your GPA is great too. My essay was lacking and with lower scores i got in.

What is the ADS competition?

cool, [Academic Merit Scholarships | Michigan State University Office of Admissions](http://admissions.msu.edu/finances/scholarships_merit.asp)

Aveesh, I believe you will get in. I hope you do. Just be patient.

Fwiw, I didn’t get in to the HC with a 3.7-something GPA and 33 on my ACT. However, my hs was super competitive and I didn’t come close to cracking the top 10%, let alone 5.

romani, I meant being accepted at MSU in general for Aveesh, not the honors college. By the way, are you graduating soon? How was your time at MSU? :)

Graduating in the spring. MSU has been incredible =). PM me if you have any questions. I don’t frequent the MSU forum that often anymore.

ADS is the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship competition. Students are selected to compete for one of these scholarships in February. Invitiations are send to students with selected GPA and ACT/SAT scores.
