anyone had a campus AND alumni interview?

Just wondering if anyone that had a Yale interview on campus was also contacted for an alumni interview? What are the chances?

My S did. Interviewed in the admissions office on campus in October and was contacted by an alum in January for an interview.

I did also (accepted EA). I had an on-campus interview at the beginning of November and was contacted for an alumni one at the end of November.

I had an on-campus interview last spring and my alumni interview in november. I got in EA.

i had both......

I had both. I got deferred EA.

i had both too....RD applicant...both went well, lets cross our fingers :)

I had an on campus and not an alumni. My on campus went really well so I don't know. I was deferred EA. I might not have had another one because I went up there for an official visit.

I had an on campus and an alumn, though i liked the alumn interviewer much better i was deferred ea so i dont know if it actually made a difference but i guess i'll have to wait to see

My daughter had both last year, in time for EA decisions; she was deferred EA and admitted RD in April. While she thought the interviews went fine, she also thought they seemed casual and rather inconsequential; it was hard to believe they played a serious role in the decision.

My take, for what it's worth, is that alumni interviews are basically a way to keep both alumni and applicants engaged with the school. I suspect that a hugely negative interview report could hurt you (although I'm not even sure that's always the case; every school has a cranky old alum or two who's not taken seriously by the adcoms), but otherwise, it doesn't really enter into the calculations.

editrix, they sure make it seem like it matters on the ASC page of the website, giving examples of alum reports that sway decisions.

I know, rumbean22, and I can't prove my point about this--but I still think the main purpose of the interviews is to make alumni feel important and connected. (Years ago I did some alumni interviewing for Yale, and I could never see the slightest correlation between my reports on the kids and the admissions results.)

Also, remember the ASC page is directed at alumni, who want to feel their contributions are important (and indeed the interviews and/or follow-up phone calls or receptions may be genuinely helpful in recruiting). If you look at the FAQ for applicants, the answer to "What does Yale look for?" doesn't even mention interviews as a factor (<a href="http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/advice.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/advice.html</a>). And the answer to "Are interviews required? Are they evaluative?" is awfully vague in addressing the second question: <a href="http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/applying.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/applying.html</a>.</p>
