anyone had anything stolen or lost??

i recently lost (or maybe it was stolen i have not figured it out yet) something that was really important to me. i dont really know what i am going to do without it. does this happen a lot in college? share your experiences if you can :-)

I've been robbed numerous times. I have also stolen numerous times. Who hasn't?

I had an iPod cable stolen, but not the dock or actual iPod, which were all together???

Weird kids.

We leave our door unlocked usually except for the weekends.

I lost a lot of stuff first quarter. nothing serious though, and nothing stolen.

Losing stuff and stealing stuff happens in college.

Losing stuff, 99% of the time, is nobody's fault but your own. If you lose (or "misplace") a lot of stuff in high school, you'll probably do the same in college unless you figure out a way to keep track of your stuff.

Stealing stuff is wrong, yes, but if you have half a brain you can prevent most theft. Lock your door. Put valuables away when not in use or when your roommate has people over who you don't know or trust. Don't leave your backpack and computer sitting on a table while you "run to the bathroom"...the one minute you're in the bathroom is plenty of time for someone to walk by and grab up all your stuff. Other people in the library will be too busy doing their own thing to even realize it was a different person picking up the stuff.

There was an abnormally high number of textbook thefts at my school at the beginning of this semester so the campus police set up a 'sting' at the library by leaving a few new textbooks in a backpack on a table. A kid walked up, looked at the items, and walked out of the library. They arrested him and found something like 35 other stolen textbooks in his dorm room.

It's not fun for the victim, but it happens.

I must note that I haven't had anything stolen while in college and I'm a sophomore.

I had a textbook disappear from a lounge during exam week once. I've never been sure if it was stolen or if one of the people I was studying with accidentally picked it up and thought it was theirs. But at least it was at the end of the semester and after I'd done most of my studying for the test. Also, the bookstore at my school was really, really generous and loaned me a copy for the day between when the book disappeared and when I took my exam.
