Does anyone have a list of costs (tuition and room & board) for all the art schools everyone's been discussing? Maybe famm? Would be interesting to see how everyones choices compare to schools they didn't get into, didn't apply, or otherwise didn't consider.

I am not sure how to share the worksheet and I only h ave some schools. I used the college board website which has last years costs as reported by the schools. Someone, BandD?, pointed me to an old link which had this wonderful site but somewhat dated data

[College Results Online](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/)
Pick the schools and you see not only costs but acceptance rates, retention rates, graduation rates, male/female ratios, etc. Very interesting!

That wasn’t me but good Greenwitch of the north, and said it got be wrong about Pratt’s graduation rate, then somehow I could believe that I don’t know how to explain…

i got my packet from pratt today.
i’ll just write the costs for Dependent Resident students. lemme know if you want independent/commuters/off campus costs.
tuition= 35,410
academic/activity fees= 880
Technology Fee= 500
room= 6,340
board= 3,680
books/supplies= 3,000
personal= 1,800
health services fee= 300
TOTAL= 51,910

mygosh i’m gonna be in debt for the rest of my life…

Realized I should have posted the stats for schools D was accepted to:

KCAI: Tuition $29,866, R&B $9,100
MCAD: Tuition $29,500, R&B $6,930
NHIA: Tuition: $15,400 (2009), R&B&Supplies, $2,500

Wow, was surprised at Pratt numbers. We didn’t even consider Pratt, so i had no idea. Guess that’s because its NYC! When we started this search, MCAD was the most, but did not have a tuition hike in 2010, where KC did.

means it will hike up every year during you are in but your paycheck stays same, milk, coffee, pound of macaroni would only goes up.
I penciled in yearly hike in three year old UNWR at B&N (AKA my private library) without buying new issues how much they’d change and in general, if tuition didn’t hike, R&B did, if neither, % of aid given went down.
So it does get harder every year counting.

VCU CMU MICA WUSTL Yale SAIC RIT
Tuition $ 7,120 $ 42,100 $ 34,090 $ 40,374 $ 36,500 $ 34,600 $29,283
R and B $ 8,340 $ 10,750 $ 9,450 $ 12,941 $ 11,000 $ 9,200 $ 9,642

Kind of puts things in perspective when you look at VCU instate, doesn’t it? I also think there are a lot of fees that are missing, particularly for CMU and RIT which have different supply costs depending on the major/school.

sorry about format tried to make it pretty but …

I can add:

Alfred: 20314 tuition + 880 fees + 11196 r & b = $32390 (2010 - 2011)

I still can’t find costs for 2010 - 2011 for MICA, RISD and Mass Art. It’s March 31st people, what is taking you so long!

Greenwitch: My daughter is graduating from MAssArt this year. We have only good things to say about the school. As far as the costs go, if you are instate the tuition is great ($8400 past year). For new England Regional Students (CT, NE, NH, RI nd VT) it was a reasonable $14,900 (lots of NE students participating in this) this past year and out of state was $24,400 for past year. Lucky for us, we’re in state. We have not found the annual tuition increases to be particularly steep. Housing, though, can be fairly expensive. Housing is guarateed only freshman year and after that, most kids group together and rent apartments in the area; very easy to find as there are many landlords in the area that rent to college students and probably no more costly than some of the student housing at Boston schools. If you are considering MAssArt and you have questions, please let me know.

what major?

Talked to MassArt today. D called them and asked why she hadn’t heard anything yet. They say they never got her test scores. Then it’s like a bad ping-pong game with me on the phone back and forth between ACT and MassArt until finally, MassArt finds the scores that had been sent 4 months ago. They tell me they’ll let D know in the next week or two if she’s accepted. (sound of head banging on the wall) D is upset, thinking there will be no merit aid or financial aid left. I try to cheer her up, by suggesting that maybe they’ll feel so guilty they’ll give her a free ride. Who knows?

My only question now is: are they always a such a mess? (thanks for the other info!)

Also, I found costs for WUSTL:

39400 tuition + 974 fees + 12518 r & b (ouch) = 52892 (2010 - 2011)

wow whay do they feed you in SL?

Well, I seem to remember that when my daughter applied to to MassArt the admissions office said they were missing one teacher recommendation that we were sure had been sent. We were working on this problem but then her acceptance letter arrived so we never found out if it turned up (I assume it did). Yes, we have had to occasionally make follow up calls to the business office, fin. aid. etc.They seem to have a lot of students working there, (maybe work study jobs) and they try to help, people there are generally quite nice and easy to deal with. The registrars office is very helpful. By the way, her major was fashion design.

I remember reading about Massart fashion alum who is now on TV fashion realty show of sort, I can’t recall her name and clueless with TV shows but it was rather moving story.
She put herself through Massart debt free holding jobs and working in studios in between 24/7.
It was doable because the tuition was reasonable and prepared her enough to do whatever she is now doing.
This art-y art-y poster named valtergorge kid mentioned it is a dark horse of art school, bet it’s true.

Adding Columbia (gulp)

41160 tuition + 2655 fees + 10572 r & b = 54387

Yikes.

oh my, that’s as in 41,000???

Fees including R&B and all misc fees (+/- $500):

USC - Roski = $53,500
UCLA - Arts = $28,250 (in state) about $49,000 (out of state)

Now we add RISD:

38000 tuition + ??? fees + 11310 avg. r & b = 49310 (+ fees) (2010 - 2011)

USC-Roski = $55,700
UC Berkeley = $31,000 (in-state)
Cornell = $56,400
MICA = ?
SAIC = $52,000

So far Cornell is the cheapest after FA.
