Does anyone have a top 20, 50, 100, or any type of ranking for political science? If so, I'd like to see it...and I'd like to see where UConn is placed.

Thanks!

According to the National Research Council (NRC), which is reliable but ouydated (last ranking came out in 1995), UConn is #67. Here's a link to the last NRC Political Science ranking:
http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/area39.html

Thanks alot Alexandre, that was helpful. Also, is the top 54 you posted for undergraduate or graduate?

Those are rankings of PhD programs. There are no recent rankings of undergraduate programs.

Ahh, I see. I'm guessing though that it should be somewhat related to the undergrad program. Like with business, the top MBA programs gernerally have top undergrad programs as well.

Not really. In the social sciences and humanities, graduate rankings are not always an identical replica of undergraduate rankings. Many LACs and non-research-based programs have excellent undergraduate offerings in Political Science. But by and large, the top 20 graduate Political Science departments are legitimately good.

wups, double post...

Also, those schools all have great Poli Sci programs... but the rankings are based largely on research and accomplishments of the professors in the respective programs and we all know that being the best in your field doesnt always translate into being the best at teaching it.

collegehelp--do you have a link to that ranking?

The Gourman rankings are not available on the web except for random postings on CC, as far as I know.

At the undergraduate level, I would consider HYP, Chicago and Wellesley to be the best.

Dartmouth comes in rather low in these rankings, yet when we visited we felt they had a great deal to offer in the area of pre-law (undergraduate law journal, law society, and strong forensics, mock trial, parliamentary debate, etc.), political speakers (New Hampshire primary!) and public policy (Rockefeller Center, through which undergrads. can do legislative research for NH and VT govts.), among other things.

Ugh, I can't believe that Gourmand really overlooked UCSD.

I'd pick UCSD over Davis or UCSB anyday.

Yes, Dartmouth is an excellent pre-law school. In the top 10, or pretty close. See:

Thank you, posterX. So does the parenthetical data after Cornell's listing mean that Cornell would rank #16 if you only count the College of Arts and Sciences?

my buddy got into UMCP, WIsconsin, and BC for political science. He is going to BC, is that a mistake? I have told him that BC is probably not AS good but i mean BC seems like a good school for a pre law track. He went as far as saying no to wisconsin like 2 months ago or whenever he had known he was in both BC and wisconsin. He just loves BC. Did he make a mistake going to higher priced BC over instate UMCP and top 10 Wisconsin? What is the best school if he is thinking Pre-law?

The main reason he wants to go to boston is that the day after he got rejected to G-town he went down to the admissions office asking what he should do if he wanted to transfer. He said that G-town said something like BC is catholic too and they take a lot of transfers from ther.
