Anyone have an opinion on UF's Engineering program??

I want to major in a field of engineering, I'm leaning towards Electrical but anyway.. I'm from Florida and only have one more semester to go before I get my A.A. So far I have a 4.0. FSCJ is easy.

I am currently looking at UF's program because I would transition easily into that school but I know it's not one of the top engineering schools by far.
Does anyone have an opinion on that program?
I imagine the engineering field to be competitive and I don't wanna screw myself because everyone and their mom went to Georgia Tech or something.

It’s a pretty strong program…generally regarded as top 30 in most areas and top 10 in a couple. Likely the second best program in the southeast after GaTech. Recent grads seem to be getting several offers from across the country. Sons roomates got offers from intel, google, microsoft, and even siemens in germany.

Do you know if that was after a B.S or M.S?

Materials Science and Engineering (MS/PhD.) is ranked #8 at UF.

@charlie: intel offer was at bs level. Other roomates were at masters.

Engineering is wise choice if you can handle it? and if you love math and science. It is not a matter of being good at math and science you have to have a passion for it.

Other than Medicine and Nursing I read that Engineering BS graduates are more marketable than any other major.

Yea, being able a job is a big plus to me. I do LOVE the idea of the field. I just hope what I’m THINKING it is and what I will ACTUALLY be doing is similar.

you are coming from FSCJ?

Good Luck. UF is on another level compared to that place. Unless you have spectacular internship/work experience you might not get in. Correction: UF is regarded as one of the best engineering programs around. It does consistently well across the board. Just know if you do come… Electrical is ridiculously hard and you definitely have to work for it coming from FSCJ.

Yea, I understand engineering to be difficult no matter where you go. Honestly, I think community colleges in general are very simple, for example St.Johns community college and Santa Fe. Those are 2 schools I know many friends of mine went to and went on to UF. Plus they are cheaper and I dont have to worry about them transferring to UF. Pretty much besides my GPA being high and my job, I don’t really have much more to wager. I do electrical on MLRS for the army, troubleshooting the electrical system and repairing.
Here is a video of what they look like, if you wanna see.

Also have you seen on the UF website this page?
[ECE-UF Information for Transfer Students](<a href=“Home : ECE FLORIDA”>Home : ECE FLORIDA)

Read the second paragraph, it talks about how transferring students have a good chance with they have the pre-reqs… How much of that do you believe to be true?

Do you think FSCJ isnt as good as the other CC’s?

Good for you Charlie! And maybe as you are aware, there were a lot of UF engineers involved with the development of MLRS!

Rereading my original post, I was a little harsh. You will get in as FSCJ is a good CC. But not a great one for preparation for UF’s Engineering school. Just work hard. I’m sure you will do fine. My friend, a PhD. candidate in Chemical Engineering, started at FSCJ. ALl he said was just work as hard as you can and you will do fine. good Luck!
