Although we are looking at a few smaller schools for my son, Illinois is a possibility for fall 2019. It is obviously large for someone with Asperger’s but has it’s advantages. It has a program for kids on the spectrum that has been in place for over 20 years (on paper, i couldn’t have written up a better program myself). No surprise with all of the engineering and CS kids on campus. It comes at no additional cost which both an advantage and a disadvantage. Obviously, no cost is a huge advantage but if I am paying the extra fee as with another school on his list, someone has to be held accountable for the extra money I would be shelling out.
Another advantage for U of I is Newman hall. It is Catholic conservative dorm which would work for his personality. It is a private dorm so they will clean your room and sheets every week. He has serious executive functioning skills so this is a big perk (they also have laundry service if it comes to that).
Anyone know anyone that has been part of this program at UIUC?
Thanks!
